  1. Ives;

    Congrats on the new venture – I think I speak for all your readers and soccer fans when I say we are pumped for this…

    The thing that stands out to me is seeing Parkhurst on the roster. I’ve been hoping he’d get a shot, do we think he’ll see time??

  2. Sadly, despite gawdy numbers in MLS, Twellman’s performance has never translated onto the international stage. He’s been given plenty of chances to step up. The few goals that he has scored have generally come against weaker teams. By comparison, Macca never had the same consistently high numbers in MLS or at Fulham at yet has produced better and in bigger games internationally. If Twellman is the best MLS has to offer, then the Nats will need plenty of goals from the midfield to compete with other nations.

  3. Ives,
    Seems like a large number of forwards and smaller number of midfielders. I know Lando can play both and usually plays more midfield but is that give them the right number at each position?

    P.S. good luck with the new venture

  4. Its good that some new faces are getting opportunities to impress. I especially like the inclusion of Justin Mapp and Jozy Altidore along with the younger defenders. The USA needs to give the time and space for players who have the ability to change games with their talent to develop at the international level.

    Also, I’m not one of those Taylor Twellman haters out there, he has been the most consistent scorer in the MLS since he entered the league. While his game has limitations, once he settles down and gets some service, he’s a far more consistent goal scorer than say… Brian Ching who is overrated because of his height.

    Is it just me or does it seem that the MLS has a horrible track record in developing attacking midfield type players? Eddie Gaven, comes to mind as a player who hasn’t quite lived up to his billing. It also amazes me that there aren’t more young “super-subs” who aren’t ready to play 90 minutes but can really impact a game when they come on (think about if you had an inexperienced Beasley to come off your bench). There is certainly the athletic ability availible, perhaps we’ll see more of this as the youth development aspect of clubs continues to grow (speaking of that, I live in Boston and the Revs don’t do squat in terms of that, if I were them I’d hold and advertise open tryouts once a year).
