Richie Williams retained as Red Bulls assistant coach

Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has decided to retain Richie Williams as an assistant coach.

The decision came after the club failed to secure New York Ironmen head coach Omid Namazi as an assistant coach. Williams had been slated to stay on with the team in a scouting/technical advisor capacity but has been working closely with Osorio since Osorio’s arrival and will now remain as an assistant coach.

According to a source, the club still may hire a second assistant coach.

  1. SK Brann’s website has announced that Ramiro Corrales has returned to MLS. (They signed Australian international Michael Errol Thwaite to play defense.) Anybody have any information on which team he will join?

  2. So since many teams have a goal keeping coach, Richie could be kept on as the ABMOD coach and then have another assistant for all the other positions.
Heck, why not just get a coach for each position, like they have in the NFL.

  3. looks to me like another one of RB’s grand plans fell through, thus needing to fill the hole by going against their (unspoken but certainly implied) word of axing everyone affiliated with arena.

danny – i see osorio as being extremely ambitious so if the first part of his contract goes well, you might even see him leave after 1 year. while the transfer window does not really exist for coaches (to my knowledge) but if a bigtime team abroad is in need of a coach after their season (may/june-ish) i wouldnt even be shocked to see him leave in the middle of the mls season. the guy only looks at mls right now as a stepping stone and one where he can build a resume without the steps/teams being scrutinized as much as they would be in europe. i mean how would 4 or 5 months with one EPL team be looked at before leaving for another EPL team? is that enough of a barometer for a move?

  4. Ives, do you think JCO is going to leave after his 2 year contract if he accomplishes his goals here? I get that feel when he talks about it…

  5. Ives, do you feel this is more because JCO couldn’t find anyone else, than anything else?

any idea if Richie has at least impressed JCO since he arrived? the move seems like it’s almost strictly out of necessity at this point.

truthfully, it’s kind of surprising that JCO doesn’t have at least ONE guy from his prior jobs that he could bring in to be his right hand guy.
