Tim_howard_ap

Consider the soccer on TV schedule officially full.

With Major League Soccer back in full swing, you can now catch matches in Europe, South America and the USA and all three will be offering up quality contests.

U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard and Everton travel to Anfield in the latest installment of the Merseyside Derby in the weekend’s marquee bout. MLS debuts with an MLS Cup rematch between Houston and New England.

What are the best matches of the weekend? Here are the Top Five:

  1. Everton at Liverpool– Derby drama aside, loser is in danger of missing out on Champions League.
  2. Celtic FC at Rangers FC– The Old Firm is always a can’t-miss affair.
  3. Sevilla at Real Madrid– Can Sevilla keep the champions tumbling and give Barcelona hope?
  4. Atletico Madrid at Villarreal– Two of Spain’s best in what should be a shootout.
  5. Houston at New England– The Revs look for some revenge. Okay, who are we kidding, revenge won’t come until November, if ever.

I was waiting for someone to respond with that response. I know what you’re saying, but aren’t most U.S. games boring? The Olympic games for the U.S., and even the U.S. vs Poland game was boring, but you watch and find it interesting because it is the U.S. and survival for the Americans in the EPL. At least that’s the way I see it.

  2. Sorry Aristotle,

    Derby vs Fulham = boring.

I will take a look at the box score. Like I said in my post above the BBC doesn’t even give a crap about this match. Fulham vs Fulham…

Fulham vs Derby doesn’t make your top 5 list?

A truckload of Americans playing for their lives in the Premier League? I think it at least beats Houston at New England!

  4. You know what’s sad? I’m not sure Fulham can even beat Derby. Derby has put up some surprising resistance despite being awful and already relegated. They almost got a point from Man. UTD., so I am sure they could be very difficult for Fulham if they are able to play anything like they did against Man UTD. Then there is the fact that Fulham has now set a record of longest streak in the history of the Premier League without winning a game away from home. Actually they couldn’t even tie away from home until just recently! One thing’s for sure, Fulham HAS to win this game for so many reasons, in addition to the obvious ones. If they win it won’t really mean too much as far as their chances of staying up, but even though it’s been said before, if they lose or tie this game, they are done! Yes, I am well aware of how many points they are behind, and of the mathematical possibilities, but if you can’t beat the punching bag of the division when you’re desperate and they have little to play for, you are done.

  5. This is the posting off of BBC.com right now with the projected line ups for tomorrow’s game. Apparently the BBC can’t be bothered with proofing this battle of the cellar. It appears Fulham is matched up with themselves.

  8. I believe that Dish Network is offering a free preview of MLS Direct Kick this weekend, so Dish subscribers can see even more MLS games if they wish…

I was planning on working tomorrow, but now I think I’ll watch Derby v Fulham, Lverpool v Everton, and both MLS games on FSC.

    Wow.

  9. Fulham v Derby… sorry, Eddie Lewis, I loved your strike against Poland, but let’s face it… your side is relegated anyways, so I will Fulham to take 3 points so the USMNT’s semipermanent UK home pitch will remain in the Premier League.
