Venezuelan playmaker Jorge Rojas has joined the New York Red Bulls in Washington D.C. today and will play against D.C. United in tomorrow night’s Eastern Conference clash at RFK Stadium.

Rojas wound up missing last week’s 3-0 win against Houston after an issue with his passport forced him to stay in Venezuela in order to secure his work visa. With that sorted out, Rojas is expected to regain his place in the starting lineup.

In other Red Bulls news, the club has signed Gambian striker Sainey Touray to a developmental contract. The Red Bulls moved up midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic to a senior roster spot vacated by traded goalkeeper Zach Thornton, freeing up a developmental roster slot for the 18-year-old striker, who is seen as a speedy project with potential who may not be ready to contribute much this season.

With Rojas in the fold, what lineup do you see Juan Carlos Osorio using against D.C. United? What do you think of the Touray signing? Share your thoughts below.

  1. Tim, last time the Bulls and DC matched up you said DC was gonna win and look how that turned out. The red bulls will win again and we didn’t just beat DC 4-1 last time because we played physical, the fact is were just better than DC. The only advantage DC has over us is that RFK is an intimidating place to play but even that won’t save you today.

  2. (1) I think they need to go with 4 in the backline.

    (2) Stammler will very unlikely be removed from the lineup.

    (3) Rojas will be in the lineup.

    (4) Magee has found his new FORM and place and will very unlikely be removed from the lineup.

    Questions:

    (1) Is Park fit to play?

    (2) Is Freeman back ‘in good terms’ with JCO?

    (3) Are there any last-moment injuries?

My guess for todays’ game at the DCU

  4. Lineup is probably similar to last week, with the exception of Rojas’ return. Who’s the odd man out? If he goes 4-4-2, either Stammler takes a seat, leaving Pietravallo as the lone d-mid, or VanDenBergh rests and Rojas plays on the left. If he goes 3-5-2, Leitch or Goldthwaite is the odd man out. I don’t see how you sit Jimenez or Boyens after last week’s performances.

  5. I see the following lineup:

    ……………..Angel………..Magee……………..

    ………………………..Rojas…………………….

    Van den Bergh………………………………Richards

    ………..Stammler…………….Petravallo………

    Goldthwaite….Parke/Boyens….Leitch

    …………………….Conway…………………….

If play four in the back, Stammler may move to the back line or start the night on the bench.

Red Bulls keep their winning streak alive, 2-1.

  6. I hope RBNY use the same lineup they used against Dynamo.. if something goes wrong put Rojas in but last week’s lineup is riding high on confidence in each other-you don’t mess that kind of chemistry up

  7. I will not pretend to know anything about Touray, but just having read about the situation and his age, I can’t see him helping much this season. Anything he contributes this year will be a nice surprise.

Tim I agree that DC are rightfully favorites for tomorrow. And I obviously understand that the surface can change many aspects of a match. I’m not sure why a natural surface would make RBNY less physical though. Not saying you’re wrong, just wondering why you came to that conclusion.

I think it will be a hard fought game. Definitely not going to predict a result. I think with the way RBNY have been playing, a draw definitely isn’t out of the question.

  8. DC is going to win. Red Bulls don’t get to play their terrible negative/physical style of play because it is going to played on grass and not turf. The fact that RFK has grass is the one good thing about RFK.

Ives, do you have any idea win Gallardo is coming back??? I am dying to see him back in action.
