  1. @Steve B: Each team must submit a roster of 18 or 20 to UEFA that will be used for the group phase. Villareal did not include Jozy on that roster so he will not feature in any of the six group phase games. Assuming Villareal goes thru, he may still get a chance to play in the knockout rounds.

  2. I looked on the Villareal website, and they said that Jozy Altidore is ineligible for the game today. Can someone shed some light on this? Is that all champions league matches? Is that only today? Thanks.

  3. DON’T FORGET THAT THE FIFA FUTSAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HAS STARTED AND THE U.S. PLAYS PARAGUAY TONIGHT (ON GALAVISION). MULTIPLE GAMES ARE BEING TELECAST ON GALAVISION. THIS IS SUPPOSEDLY THE GREAT FALCAO’S LAST TOURNAMENT, SO WATCH A PLAYER AS GREAT AT HIS GAME AS MARADONA OR PELE WAS AT THEIRS PLAY ONE LAST TIME.

  4. You’re right, Ives….Villareal is in control.

You know, it’s actually refreshing when a Scottish team goes down a goal because then they actually have to play football. And when they do, they’re not too bad at it. CL is still a better place without Rangers or Celtic playing for a nil-nil kickfest.

  5. Villarreal up 1-0 now, in complete control. Rossi’s come close a few times. Those of you wondering why I’m not doing a running commentary. I’m getting my brakes fixed at a place that happens to have ESPN Deportes showing (and yes, I have my laptop with me).

  6. yeaaa just a little better than the Hull game

they have serious issues in the back. Toure/Gallas just isnt working. Cesc finally seems to be finding his legs which is nice. Adebayor hasn’t looked good today, nor has Nasri. Theo is tearing up the wing as always, couple chances

  7. Just a shout out to Ryan Guy, American playing abroad in Ireland for St. Patrick’s Athletic, as they draw scoreless against Vorinin and Hernatha Berlin. They go out on aggregate, but another solid showing against a big team by a league of ireland side.

  8. RSF, looks like they’re playing better than vs. Hull. (sorry, couldn’t resist). Seriously though…which Gunners team will show up for THIS game. Hard to tell from week to week.

  9. ManU is going to be on because they are the defending champions. Also, they are the most popular club in the world. Also, most US fans are EPL fans and ratings count so they’ll show the top EPL teams as much as possible.

That being said, I agree that ManU playing some minnow is not quite as compelling as some of the other matches. Oh, and I hate the Red Evil Empire.

  10. Ives-

Can you please use your connections at ESPN to beg them to stop broadcasting the steady diet of Chelsea/MUFC/Arsenal and actually try to show the most exciting game of the week ?

I do not see the interest of Aalborg-MUFC (esp. when compared to a Munich-Lyon), unless someone at ESPN has an extremely unhealthy crush on C. Ronaldo and the dozen of eggs he pours on his hair.

  11. Jeez, what a game. Zenit is so close to being a truly elite side. Woodwork, awesome saves by Casillas, and some poor finishing was the difference here.

Both keepers made great saves in this one. It was SUCH a good football game.

  12. The skill on display in this Zenit-Real Madrid game is stunning. The defenses are a bit ragged but I think that’s largely because every time a team gets possession, the whole f’n roster pours forward. Really, really good football.
