Good Morning from SBI

Sunrise

Today is shaping up to be a good day.

With the MLS Combine just two days away, it is time to start focusing on the MLS Draft and everything that goes into this time of year. It isn't just a time to evaluate the incoming draft talent, but also time to prepare for wheeling and dealing and the potential movement of several veteran players.

The trade rumors are swirling and I will be sharing some of the buzz I've been hearing this week later on today, along with the final MLS Mock Draft before the Combine. SBI will be at the MLS Combine in Ft. Lauderdale, as well as the MLS Draft in St. Louis, with SBI correspondents Gianfranco Panizo (MLS Combine) and Dylan Butler (MLS Draft) joining me to bring you all the action.

Before I kick the day off, I wanted to remind you all to cast your votes for SBI in the Best Sports Blog contest in the 2008 weblog awards. Initially, we were simply hoping to avoid relegation, but thanks to a strong push from the SBI Mafia, Soccer By Ives is in third place and closing in on second place. We won't be catching the leader and two-time defending champion, Kissing Suzy Kolber (in part, because we won't stoop to running pics of bikini models to lobby for votes—-yet). Keep on voting (you're allowed to vote once a day) and SBI just might walk away with a respectable finish against the mainstream sports blogs.

That's all for now. I'll get your day started with this great video montage from ussoccer.com of all of the goals scored by the U.S. men's national team in 2008. If you are a USA fan and you haven't seen it yet, it is a must-watch (and yes the clip works now, it was removed temporarily to make some changes):

  2. very good video, reminds me of the one done by Nike last year. My favorite part is the Poland game, which I don’t remember.

  4. I look at that video and think “Boy, I hope the Galaxy sign that Jamaican goalkeeper!”

I still love the quick free kick that Donovan sent by that poor guy.

During World Cup 2006 and Euro2008 … Fox Soccer Channel’s website would post a gallery of pictures of very attractive female soccer fans in the stands supporting their country … even better than bikini models IMO!

  6. Ives,

Since the Crew looks to be retaining almost all of their players and having very few draft picks, what do you see them doing this off-season?

  7. I like the “good the bad and the ugly” music remixed in the video… As for bikini models, if that’s stooping, then by all means, let the stooping begin… I did briefly look at the Kissing Suzy Kolber site, and its not very impressive, not sure who’s voting for it

  8. Anybody else remember those lame espn2 commercials when that channel first aired?

“Keith and Suzy” … “Suzy and Keith”

It’s time to be shameless, Ives. Awards are at stake.

I’d start with poring over Univision broadcasts.

  10. That video will get you a bit wound up to start the day. Cheers.

I didn’t realize exactly how many goals the US scored from set pieces this year. Both good and bad I suppose but there were a fairly wide array of angles and finishes so that’s cool.
