This weekend’s soccer on TV

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 5 (AP)

Good afternoon all. As you can tell, it has been a bit of a slow news day, but the weekend promises plenty of quality soccer to get you back in the groove after such an exciting mid-week of action.

AC Milan takes on Inter Milan in this weekend's marquee match-up as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co. look to halt the re-energized AC Milan attack, led by David Beckham. AC Milan will be without Kaka, but this should still be a can't-miss encounter at the San Siro.

The English Premier League is on break this weekend (save for one match) as FA Cup action takes place, and the best of the match-ups this weekend features star American goalkeepers Tim Howard and Everton against Brad Friedel and Aston Villa.

Those are just some of the quality match-ups this weekend (The Old Firm is also being played, but Rangers-Celtic is on pay-per-view rather than regular cable). Here is the full slate of games this weekend (I will post a Top 10 shortly, for now check out the schedule and post your thoughts on the weekend's action below):

Top 10 Matches to Watch

1. AC Milan at Inter Milan. The Milan Derby is always entertaining and exciting and this time around we get to see David Beckham have his first experience in it.

2. Aston Villa at Everton. The work never stops for Tim Howard. Fresh off beating Mexico on Wednesday, he and Everton must knock off the red-hot Villans and fellow American Brad Friedel.

3. Bayern Munich at Hertha Berlin. Can Landon Donovan get more playing time in this crucial Bundesliga battle?

4. Getafe at Atletico Madrid. Yes, Atletico has struggled this season, but this should still be a fun one to watch.

5. Barcelona at Real Betis. At the rate they're going, how do you ever pass up a chance to see Barcelona put on a clinic?

6. St. Etienne at Paris St. Germain. Not a big fan of French soccer? You might want to make an exception because this one should be entertaining.

7. Chelsea at Watford. Can Guus Hiddink right the ship at Stamford Bridge, or can Jay DeMerit help lead Watford to the FA Cup upset?

8. Chivas de Guadalajara at Santos Laguna. Okay, so maybe you hate Mexican soccer, but A) this should be a very good match and B) it's another chance to root against Oswaldo Sanchez.

9. Sampdoria at Juventus. Up early on a Sunday? You can do worse things than watch this Serie A tilt.

10. Corinthians at Sao Paolo. Why not broaden your horizons and take in a quality Brazilian League clash?

  2. Dutch Eredivisie on ESPN Deportes

    Saturday 10:30 AM (pdt)

    PSV Eindhoven vs. AZ Alkmaar

Runaway league leaders AZ visit 4th place PSV in what should be a fantastic match….besides than the Milan Derby, I’m probably looking forward to this match more than any other this weekend (I don’t get Setanta and don’t seem to have a way to see the Old Firm Derby)

  3. Daytona 500 and NBA All-Star weekend. Sorry, soccer, maybe next weekend I’ll be interested. I just got back from USA/Mexico, time to give my other interests some attention.

  4. Does Zlatan have a brother named Jar Jar?

    Just wondering…

If the Beck’s deal goes down today, it would be interesting to see if he immediately drops off against the Special One.
