If you are a New York Red Bulls fan who has a bunch of questions about your team as we stand a month away from the start of the 2009 MLS season, fear not. Now is your chance to get some of those questions answered.

Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio will be taking part in a Q&A with SBI where you will be able to ask him about all things Red Bulls. Whether it's the search for a left back, the acquisition of Khano Smith, the formation he thinks will work best with the current Red Bulls roster, or another other team-related questions, SBI will select the best of the questions and have Osorio answer them.

Please try to keep the questions from being too long and try to limit your questions to one or two and keep them Red Bulls-related. We will try to have the answers to you within the next week.

Post your questions in the comments section below.

  1. Do you plan to send any players out on loan, given there is no more reserve division?

Is signing a homegrown youth academy player to a GA contract under consideration for this year at any point during the season? Will you review your homegrown players in the summer and potentially sign one to the first team?

Are Matt Kassel and John Agudelo still the top homegrown prospects from the RB youth academy?

If there are funds left over, for any reason, would you consider signing a 2nd DP player before the season or in the summer window?

At what position would you sign a 2nd DP either for this season or in the future?

  2. gabe ferrari seems to be struggling during his time in italy, would u b open to taking a look at him during the summer

also what do u think about Matt Kassel’s non inclusion in the recent u20 camps… but another red bull’s midfielder dilly duka being recently added to these camps

also it seems lik we hav a lot of keepers on the roster, how many do u plan to keep or will several be loaned out

  3. Would you consider trading one of the DP slots and splash some cash for Landon Donavan since he is not wanted at Munich?

  4. A bunch of comedians commenting on this post…

Anyway, my question: you now have quite a few speedy attackers on the team – Richards, Oduro, Kandji, etc. How will you be able to use their speed when some of your other main attackers – i.e., Rojas – seem (to put it kindly) not so fast?

  5. what kind of starting line up will you put out.4-4-2 or 3-5-2. And which players are most likely to start. In my opinion it should be cepero, leitch, boyens, petke, goldwaithe, stammler, richards, smith, rojas, oduro, angel. What do you think.

  6. It looked like the Haitian Foward trialist was scoring left and right, why hasnt he been selected to come to Agentina?

  7. Coach. With the reserve league gone, how will bench & developmental players remain in “game shape” throughout the season?

  8. Having coached in the EPL how would you rate the level of play in MLS? Could a MLS club survive the premiership? How about the Championship?

  9. Hey Coach! First off – congratulations on the wonderful job you’ve been doing with the team so far. I’m excited for this year.

What do you see as the biggest priorities for the Red Bulls, as a whole, for the next year or so?

Continued stability as an organization? Depth at every position? Solidifying the back line? Winning the Cup?

    Thanks very much!

  10. Coach Osorio,

There’s been rumors that Salvadorian International Alfredo Pacheco will be joining the team. Can you give us more info on that? I think Pacheco will be a great left back for the team, strong fast, and has a potent well educated Left foot.

  11. Coach Osorio,

There were a few developmental players that were instrumental in our run to the MLS Cup final including Sinisa Ubiparpovic, Luke Sassano, and Danny Cepero. Given the recent re-signing of Dane Richards, do you see those three players being re-signed to full senior contracts?

    Thanks,

    Tutul

  12. my question for jco is.. 1. Why are we keeping so many goalies in the roster? 2. How much better is defense looking and is our finishing improving(except angel) cuz all I see in our previous matches is a bunch of chances but no finishing.. And 3. Why don’t we bring in a skills coach to teach our wingers to cross cuz we have the speed but lack in crossin, think a better trainer can help Richards out?

  13. Our defense is quite weak. When looking at the roster, we’re quite well off everywhere except for the back where, in my opinion, we have two MLS calibur players and that’s it. What do you plan on doing about this? Is this your highest priority?

  14. Hey Coach, Great job last season!
Which foreign players are you keeping an eye on, and what do you think are the red bulls greatest strengths and weaknesses.

  15. Why is it that whenever there is a position which needs to be filled, we look to foreign born replacements before American ones? Do you feel that American options are really that limited?

  16. Coach Osorio,

I read in “La Prensa Grafica” (A Newspaper from El Salvador) that you were scouting El Salvador’s National Team defender, Alfredo Pacheco, and a few other players at a El Salvador League Match game between Club Deportivo FAS and Luis Angel Firpo last night (Feb 18,2009) Are the possibilites high that any of the players you were scouting last night, will be on the Red Bulls Roster before this MLS Season starts?

  17. As of this moment, how much room does RBNY have under the salary cap and/or how much allocation money is available for transfers?

Who is the most promising youth players within the RBNY system and what are your plans to retain them?

  18. Mr. Osorio,

I’ve always wondered about what the real benefits are, to MLS clubs, for having relationships with other clubs overseas.

My question for you is, aside from the occasional friendly or training opportunity, what opportunities/benefits does Red Bull New York’s relationship with Red Bull Salzburg provide to New York’s on the field product? Have you ever had loan/purchase opportunities offered to your team that would’ve helped?

Or is the idea of having “sister” clubs more of a way to market the teams involved?

Thank you for your time. And thanks to Ives for helping to make the Q&A possible.

    Best of luck this season.

  19. coach can you go through the different qualities that richards and mbuta bring to the table….i think richards is awesome but his crossing and finishing at times is suspect(i’m sure he’s worked on that in the off season) while in the few appearances i’ve seen matthew, i think he’s a little sharper in the areas dane lacks….maybe you see something else in practice that we don’t get to see….thx for u’r time

  20. Coach,

Will you be using your best squad for Champions League games, even if the teams league form may not be up to par (i.e. out of the playoffs as of the date of the Champions League game)?

  21. Coach Osorio. I really enjoyed an interview you did last year in the Jorge Rojas en Vivo program prior to the MLS finals. Unfortunately I cannot find a transcript of it, but would you repeat an observation you made about how the game is taught with cones and players do not learn the bounces and angles as when you learn to play using the walls as it is done in Latin countries. I found it very insightful and I have been trying to convey the message but I think it would be more helpful if it came from you.

    Thanks

  22. Are you considering trades to upgrade the talent and depth on the roster?

How are you using the allocation money from the Altidore sale?

    Thanks.

  23. Coach,

I read you in a Salvadorean newspaper that you where in El Salvador scouting a few players. Do you think there will be a player from El Salvador playing with the RedBulls soon?

  24. Will the Red Bulls make any effor to reaquire Jeff Parke, who does not want to sign with Seattle? Will the Red Bulls make any effort to aquire Wilman Conde, who doesn’t want to play in Chicago again?

  25. can you tell us more about RedBull’s academies in Africa and South America and what is your relationship with them?

What is your relationship with RB Salzburg? any sort of loan agreements with that club in the horizon?

  26. Coach, are you looking into getting the rights to Jeff Parke back from Seattle / are you even interested in doing so? Are you instead moving on and looking for different defenders and if so where and how is that search going? Thank you!

  27. What are you hoping to get out of Oscar Echeverry? He only played a few games last year and has not trained with us fully this preseason but he is still on the roster. Does he have a guaranteed contract or something because many fans are curious as to why he is still here but a promising player like St. Preux got cut?

  28. What are your expectations for the year? Which new player/returning player do you think will have the most impact/improvement?

How much do you expect Jeremy Hall to contribute?

  29. The Red Bulls are playing in a few tournaments this year in addition to the regular season. With this in mind, what are your top three goals / priorities this season? And what is your plan for success to achieve these goals?

  30. Mr. Osario, thank you for your time. Are you as pumped as I am about Red Bull Arena? (Be advised, I am very pumped.) Scale of 1-10?

How does MLS differ from Columbia, England and anywhere else you have coached? Is the style different? Does this require different coaching decisions?

(Ives – thanks and feel free to edit)

    -Mike

  31. Do you at allconsider players from eastern european markets? For example most recently a Russian veteran, standout playmaker Egor Titov who only turned 32 was available for under 500k and ended up signing for some average club somewhere in kazakhstan. A very well known big name player from his days at Spartak Moscow and still has alot creativity and experience to offer. I think would been amazing compliment to J.P.Angel

  32. If Danny Cepero wins the goalkeeper starting spot, will you be looking to trade John Conway with four goalkeepers and John’s high slary?

With B.O. comming in to camp late, and stating he only wants a senior roster spot, do you think that is a bad start with you on a personal stand point or is it just a player playing a good buisness stand point?

With the shorter rosters, who is on your hot seat?

Before the MLS season, will we see any good/big names on trial, or being signed?

Are you looking to Trade any players before the season starts?

Who are the trailists that will be in Argintina?

We know you are a Defensive minded coach, but with the trades and player movement made we look very fast and athletic, will you be changing your style of game?

Are, we looking at any defenders that can start right away and make an impact on our team?

  33. Are you done with the 3-5-2 this year or will we see it again? Where do you see Stammler fitting in the line up? Will your tactics change at all and focus more on your speed players (Oduro, Richards, Kanji, Mbuta)?

  34. Coach, you have probably seen a lot more of Khano Smith than I have.

In my opinion, he is at best wildly inconsistent and at worst temperamental and wasteful offensively.

I realize this might be a biased opinion, so I’m wondering how he can help the team in your eyes, and whether you see him as a first XI starter. Thank you.
