Xerez keep Altidore on the sidelines again

If you were hoping to see Jozy Altidore make his debut for Xerez this weekend then you will be disappointed to know that you will have to wait a little longer.

The young U.S. national team forward was left off of the gameday roster for Xerez's match on Sunday against Levante UD. The news is surely to cause a riot among American fans, who have witnessed their other teenage sensation, Freddy Adu, miss out on playing time with his club, Monaco.

Altidore still has not dressed once for Xerez during his month-and-a-half loan with the team. Altidore last played professionally as a second-half sub on Feb. 11 in the United State's 2-0 win over Mexico.

So what do we make of Altidore's lack of playing time? While it is understandable that Xerez does not want to mess with the team's chemistry as they make a final push towards promotion, one can't help but wonder why the loan deal was made in the first place.

Altidore's situation would have been better had Villarreal accepted Everton's loan offer during the winter transfer window or had Altidore stayed training with the La Liga club itself.

While Altidore's lack of playing time probably won't cause him to miss any World Cup qualifiers, (due to the lack of depth at forward) can the United States really afford to have its starlet not playing competitive games?

Take into consideration that besides World Cup qualifying, the United States has the Confederations Cup this summer and the Americans would greatly benefit from an in-form Altidore as they look to advance out of a group that consists of Italy, Brazil and Egypt. But for Altidore to make an impact, he will need to break into Xerez's line-up.

What do you think of Altidore not making the bench for Xerez? Frustrated? Wish he would have stayed with Villarreal? Think he should have gone on loan to Everton instead?

  1. Altidore was not loaned to a EPL team (everton) because Villareal has high hopes for him and they want him to adjust to Spanish life. However, the reason he is getting no playing time is because Xerez have never made to La Liga 1st division and they have a great chance this year and their main striker is superb, netting 20 goals so far.

    It’s Xerez not Xerez

Good Possibilty is that Xerez Mgr is telling the truth. Alitdore probably is not used to working hard in training.
