Kansas City Wizards forward Josh Wolff was named MLS Player of the Week for his two-goal performance in helping the Wizards battle back from a 2-0 deficit to salvage a 2-2 tie vs. the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

Wolff beat out a strong field of candidates for the honor, including Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton, Wizards teammates Kevin Hartman, New York Red Bulls forward Macoumba Kandji and FC Dallas forward Kenny Cooper.

The honor marks the sixth time Wolff has been named MLS player of the week during his career, and fourth time he's won the award since joining the Wizards in 2005.

What did you of Wolff's performance? Think he deserved MLS player of the week? If not, who would have gotten your vote?

  1. Berlin’s got a point. Onstad was an animal and Cooper’s first goal was better than both of Wolff’s combined. Wolf is highly inconsistent and he’ll show it in the coming weeks.

Everyone just needs to do like Nacho Libre and Mucho take it easy!!

  2. Bennie Olsen – without him, DC loses. What a goal in stoppage time on ankles of glass after giving his heart and soul for 90 minutes while his coach screws up the simle art of substitution.

  3. Agree about Hartman. He was the star of that game. Without him, the Wiz are down 4-0 and Wolff’s goals don’t matter.

  4. Should have been Hartman. Wolff made two easy finishes. Hartman made 4 or 5 outstanding saves at crucial times in the game.

  5. im sorry, but why??

he got two goals to tie the game, congrats… but then again, he had to come back from 2 of McBride’s goals….

  6. I really pray that these calls to bring Wolff back into the USMNT fold are in jest…It wasn’t too long ago that this place was in full meltdown mode when he was called up in 2008…

  8. Wolff still has the ability to create in the final third with his passes as an attacking midfielder so I think it might be interesting what the formation for the Wizards will be when they find their stride.

  9. socrates,

Wolff was on the wing against Seattle, on the wing 1st half v. Fire, up top 2nd half.

Hopefully, he’ll be up top from now on where he belongs, and Davy will be back as an attacking midfielder where he belongs.

Note: Davy has only scored 1 goal since moving up top. Both goals against TFC came as an attacking midfielder.

  10. Proof that 15 minutes can save you 1 point, your starting spot, and a bunch of money by switching to Geico. Congrats Wolffy.

  11. Can someone who watches the Wizards explain: where does Wolff actually play, forward or wing? If both, where does he play more?

I’ve seen the basic KC lineup 2 ways:

    1) Wolff as forward:

    —–Wolff—–Lopez——
    Gomez–Arnaud–Jewsbury–Hirsig
    Besler–Conrad–Hohlbein–Watson
    ———–Hartman———–

    2) Wolff as winger:

    —–Arnaud——Lopez—–
    Wolff–Hirsig–Jewsbury–Gomez
    same

    Clarification appreciated!
