Fiorentino Perez said he was bringing in a new group of 'Galacticos'.

He was not kidding.

Real Madrid has added Karim Benzema to Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Real Madrud summer haul, and now Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery wants to be next.

Real Madrid is adding Benzema for €35 million euros ($48.77 million), who joins a stable that has now surpassed $200 million in value. With Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and defender Raul Albiol already in the field, and Franck Ribery reportedly ready to join, Real Madrid is looking like the team to beat in Spain and the Champions League, though defending champions Barcelona will still have something to say about that.

So what does the new Real Madrid look like? Here is how the starting lineup could look:

2009 Real Madrid starting lineup

—————-Benzema————-Raul———————

—–Kaka—————-Ribery—————Ronaldo——-

————————–Diarra——————————–

Heinze———Pepe———–Albiol—————–Ramos

———————–Casillas——————————–

Yes, you can say it. WOW.

What do you think of Benzema joining REal Madrid? If Ribery signs, will Real Madrid become the new favorite to win all hardware in Europe next season? Still have questions about Real Madrid's defense? Still like Barcelona to repeat in the league and in Europe?

  2. You can have the best midfielders and strikers in the world, but as you all know ,championships are won with defense and Real Madrid needs at least 3 defenders to accomplish that, they only have one and you know who that is,, Sergio Ramos!!.. They should have signed Lucio from Bayern, he could have been a good fit for Real, Too bad!

  4. Why doesn’t Bayern trade Ribery for Robben Van Der Vaart & Van Nistlerooy….? Real Madrid wants to get rid of them anyway and they will be great for Bayern.

im not getting so worked up over this. We’ll see when they actually play.

i don’t see this working out that well.

  6. Ribery would be wide with Kaka in the middle.
Also I don’t see Raul starting on this eleven. Instead I see, Robben/Schnieder in 4-5-1, or Huntlear in 4-4-2.

  7. Someone asked ‘Who can pull for that team?’

Earlier today, in a comment thread on NBA free agency, someone named Yankeesfan4life made the insightful contribution ‘Lakers runnin da league next year’, followed by some other ignorant nonsense that implied the other teams should prepare to receive unwelcome sexual acts from the Laker organization. I would bet Yankeesfan4life also roots for the Cowboys and Tarheels (but only in basketball; he likes Miami or Florida football).

People like Yankeesfan4life- absolute losers who believe jumping onto a bandwagon somehow makes them a winner by association- will love this Real lineup.

  8. this team is a nightmare to try to defend and will definitely be fun to watch. however they’re a sieve at the back. ramos is a joke of a rb, he should just be turned into a winger on the right b/c he has great attacking and passing skills but he simply can’t defend, metzelder is past it, heinze is too, albiol is decent but certainly not world class. now if they want to offload their dutch contingent we gooners would love to take m. diarra, huntelaar/higuain off real’s hands. oh and whoever said raul was giving up his #7 to cuntaldo is wrong cr is going to wear #9.

That is a super line up. Maybe better than their starters???

Pellegrini must be wondering what he got himself into…

  10. Sneijder
    Van Nistelroy
    Van Der Vaart
    Raul
    Guti
    Higuian
    Negrado
    Robben
    Diarra
    Gago
    Drenthe
    Garay
    Marcelo

………. I’d take that team! lol This is their SECOND team:

    ——–Raul—–Higuain——
    —————————-
    —Robben-VDV-Diarra-Sneijder—
    —————————-
    -Marcelo-Garay-Metzelder-Drenthe-

Everyone forgets about Marcelo and Garay for their defense. They may be lacking this year, but they’ll be ok, all.

  11. I don´t think that Ives line-up makes much sense. First off, Kaka would be in the middle, accompanied by Gago or Diarra(the latter Marca has moving). Then, in all honesty Higuain is much better than Raul at this point. One option would be to put Benzema and Higuain up top, and then play Raul and Kaka, or even Guti in the middle. Plus, look to have Heinze replaced by Arbeloa from the Pool.

  12. I expect to see them featured in a large percentage of the 20 ESPN La Liga matches this upcoming season. Should be fun to watch.

    I won’t go anywhere else.

    Good luck Kenny.

  14. WOW. Look at that defense!!!!!!

Good luck stopping La Liga with that back four. Casillas will have his hands full all season long…

Still not convinced Kaka and Ronaldo will get along. Ronaldo is not used to playing with a midfield playmaker. He is used to getting the ball, turning around, and blazing past players. It will be very interesting and soap opera-esque watching the Kaka/Ronaldo relationship unfold before our eyes. I hope they fall flat on their faces (the team), just to show other owners you can’t buy a championship, it is earned on the training pitch and with team work.

  15. I agree that Higuain starts.

The bench currently incldues: Raul, RVN, Guti, Robben, Van der Vaart, and Sneijder.

I’d expect some to be sold, but really an embarassment of riches from an attacking standpoint.

  16. Real Won’t win a damn thing with that lineup. They’ll sell jerseys, but that’s about it. Their midfield is still not as good/efficient as Barca’s, and their strikers will only be on par, while their defense will be worse (although having Casillas in goal is a big plus).

I can’t wait to see this blow up in Perez’s face… just like the last Galacticos experiment. The rest of the world will enjoy our schadenfreude, thank you very much.

  17. I agree — Ribery wide and Kaka in the middle.

Why in the world would any of you think that Higuain would get shipped? Do any of you look at the schedule? La Liga, CL, and Copa del Rey . . . you need a deep team. And this is a team that has been decimated by injuries over the last year. The Dutch players have proven to be extremely fragile. Raul is not getting any younger, either. He has exceeded expectations over the last couple of years, and I don’t know how much longer he can remain productive.

My sense is that few of you actually watch this team every week. And it’s also my sense that a lot of you are going to be watching them a lot more now that Galacticos 2.0 has come into being.
