Zizzo close to loan move to Fortuna Dusseldorf

Sal Zizzo (Hannover96)

Sal Zizzo is close to finalizing a loan deal from Hannover 96 to Fortuna Dusseldorf of Germany's Bundesliga II.

The one-year loan deal is in the final steps of negotiations with Zizzo just needing to pass a physical before officially joining the recently promoted club.

Zizzo, who transferred to the Hannover in 2007 following his impressive performance at the U-20 World Cup, played in only five games for Hannover this past season.

What do you think of Zizzo getting loaned out? Think Fortuna Dusseldorf is a good fit? Do you think he should be on the Gold Cup roster?

  1. ^ I would say yes ^

I really like him and Szetela, I hope both continue to progress at the right pace. The key for these youngsters is simply playing time, building confidence and consistency, and maintaining good form. I’d rather have him anywhere playing, than sitting on the bench for a good team.

  2. I hope he gets playing time, but is the Bundesliga 2 really that much better in terms of overall talent in the league than the MLS?

  3. this dude is a mystery to me… never heard of him before the u-20 cup, and really haven’t heard from him since, other than the fact that he was in Germany… hopefully he’s making progress, and will get some gametime at this club

As for the Gold Cup. No, he shouldn’t be there

  4. afc… that news about EJ is false… just FYI. Fulham did not offer anything that is coming from Crystal Palace request…

  5. Playing time is what he needs. Still young guy and the article seems like Hannover are still interested. I saw someplace that they gave him his release and I am glad that is not true.

  6. Good place for him to be. Fortuna is a decent club in a larger city (compared to some BII locations), so he’ll be playing in front of nice sized crowds. And, the LTU Arena is a very nice, newer stadium.

Fan base isn’t as rabis as some (odd, especially in Northrhein-Westfalia), so it’s not a pressure cooker.

Dusseldorf is a cool city, too. Used it as our base in WC 2006. I also remember Kasey Keller once being interviewed about the places he’d played while he was still at ‘Gladbach, and saying “If you can’t have a good time living in London, Madrid, and Dusseldorf, you’re doing something wrong.”

He’ll also only be about 20 miles from former US U-20 teammate Michael Bradley, and about 30 miles from potential future teammate Jermaine Jones.

  7. As long as he gets to play it is good. Would love to see him play in the Gold cup, but Bradleys choices are always mind boggling.

  8. I wanted to see him play for the MNT in the Gold Cup. We haven’t shown much interest since the ’07 Sweden game…..god that was a long time ago. Hopefully he steps in and gets immediate playing time or else we’re looking at Jozy Altidore-Villareal-Xerez 2.0

  9. I was hoping he had progressed enough to get serious playing time with Hannover this coming year, but I guess not. As long as he plays, this loan isn’t a bad idea.
