Weekend College Soccer Wrap

Upsets are always a huge part of sport, and when it comes to the collegiate game, the national rankings create an obvious atmosphere for upset. While in the men's game, hardly a weekend goes by without upset — particularly in the ACC, as the powerhouses beat up on each other — it's always worth noting when the mighty fall. No. 2 Wake Forest was the latest to fall, coming up short against Charlie Davies' former school Boston College by a 1-0 scoreline. Another top 10 team in No. 8 UConn suffered a 2-1 overtime defeat at the hands of Notre Dame. Perhaps most surprising was the University of Dayton crushing No. 11 Charlotte 3-0.

While the ripple effect won't be felt in the RPI and rankings til later today/tomorrow, two ACC rivals that wouldn't budge were Maryland and Virginia, who played to a standstill through two overtimes in a 0-0 draw out in College Park.

The Ivy League is known for producing some of the country's brightest students, but they can also roll out some decent soccer talent. Andre Akpan bagged the game-winning goal as him and his Harvard classmates defeated Dartmouth 2-1 to go top of the Ivy League table.

Elsewhere around the nation, No. 14 Monmouth improved their record to 15-1-1, beating Quinnipiac 2-0 in NEC play. No. 4 UCSB needed double overtime to overcome No. 19 UC Irvine 1-0 and No. 5 Louisville drubbed Villanova 5-0 to win the Big East Red Division.

What did you think of this weekend's games? Surprised to see Wake Forest lose? Will Akron have a chance to take No. 1 in the RPI? Any other good games over the weekend?
