Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

Clint Dempsey has cooled down a bit since achieving a rapid-fire scoring streak over the past seven weeks, but Dempsey will have an opportunity to reignite that streak this weekend, only his chance comes against an EPL heavyweight.

Dempsey and Fulham play host to Manchester United, which is still trying to make up for its 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at home last weekend. While Sir Alex Ferguson's men will be the favorites, it's worth noting that Fulham have only lost once since October, and that Dempsey, who is tied for first in goals scored for Fulham with five, has been one of the Cottagers' marquee players during that run.

Other Americans looking to continue their stellar run of form are midfielders DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Bradley. Beasley is coming off two impressive performances for Rangers, and can make it three against Motherwell, while Bradley and Borussia Moenchengladbach hope to climb up the Bundesliga standings vs. Bayer Leverkusen.

Jozy Altidore is also hoping to push Hull City up the standings, as the club sits only a point away from the drop zone heading into its match against Arsenal. If Altidore can find the back of the net for the first time in his EPL career, then Hull will likely be one step closer to pulling out a result and improving their chances of avoiding relegation.

Here is a rundown of who the Americans Abroad will be playing this weekend:

  1. I’ll take 90 minutes a week over anything. And Lincoln city are in a relegation scrap, so I’m sure it’s toughening him up some, too.

  2. Just an addendum for those of you who are interested: Eric Lichaj (Aston Villa) has been on loan to League Two side Lincoln City for the past month or so and has been playing the full 90 with them. I think he just signed a loan extension through the end of the year.

  3. Hey Ives – I’m sure it is coming but I need my weekend matches on TV post!! Fox redesigned their web site – and at least at work all I can find is next weeks FSC printable schedule – so I’m at a loss on how to plan my weekend!

  4. I think he was serving a suspension a couple of games ago, and then he was on the bench against Monaco. My guess is he’ll be back in the starting 11 this weekend.

  6. What do you mean Dempsey has cooled down? He came on (Wednesday?) against Basel to help set up the game winning goal and which allowed Fullham to advance out of group play….

  7. SBI…I thought Jermaine Jones was back to training with Schalke 04, but you have him listed as Injured. Did something happen to re-injure his leg or is he listed as Injured until he can return to playing fitness?
