Cherundolo sidelined four weeks with shoulder injury

U.S. national team defender Steve Cherundolo has been ruled out of action for up to a month with a shoulder injury he picked up in practice, revealed club Hannover 96 on its website on Sunday.

Cherundolo's injury likely rules him out of action for the U.S. team's upcoming friendly against the Netherlands on March 3, and comes at a time when Hannover 96 are battling to get out of the relegation zone.

Cherundolo's injury adds to the laundry list of potential U.S. World Cup players sidelined with injuries. DaMarcus Beasley (thigh), Charlie Davies (knee, elbow), Clint Dempsey (knee), Maurice Edu (ankle), Jermaine Jones (leg) and Oguchi Onyewu (knee) are all currently on the shelves.

What do you think of Cherundolo's injury? Worried about how this will affect his form? Just happy to hear the injury is not too severe? Which other right backs would you like to see called in for the Netherlands friendly?

  1. i like how someone here remembered edgar castillo!, the kids got talent, bradley just over looks him because he plays in mexico, like he does orozco whose clearly capable of playing for the senior USMNT and paco torres …bradley just seems a little unfair in terms of giving others a look sometimes.

  2. Dolo’s been playing. He didn’t play Saturday because he got his 5th yellow card the weekend before and had to sit out a game. Boca played this weekend the first times in weeks.

Anyways Hannover is saying it’s a shoulder break and he should be back in 6 weeks. Sucks about the Dutch game, would have been ideal for Spector to play LB, but as someone else said, at least some of our guys won’t be worn ragged when the WC comes around.

  3. That is a good connection. Gotta love American-Military bases abroad…now if we could only get one in Brazil or Argentina…but there are a few Air Force bases in Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.

  4. Yeah, but who are England’s wingers? I’m more worried about Bocanegra having to defend Rooney.

(SBI-At this point, there isn’t a team or defenders who wouldn’t be worried about having to defend Rooney. And to be fair, Bocanegra and Onyewu defended Rooney pretty well the last time they met.)

  5. Also, Demerit can play RB, he has before and he could in a pinch. But I don’t think there will be a pinch, Spector would due just fine if Dolo was out, but I think that he (Dolo) will be fine.

  6. The point is not if these guys will be at the WC it’s how in form will they all be not having played due to injuries and manager decisions. I think everyone but Davies will be in SA and play but will lkiely suck due to rust. BB will play Gooch, Boca, Dolo (who wasn’t playing before injury), and Dempsey it they are able to stand upright but how effective will they be?
