SBI is heading to the MLS Combine

Mls

The 2010 MLS Player Combine will kick off on Saturday as more than 70 of the best players availabe for the draft will play and attempt to impress scouts ahead of Thursday's MLS Draft.

SBI will be providing detailed coverage of the Combine, including live match commentaries, features and breakdowns of who is and isn't impressing in Fort Lauderdale. Gianfranco Panizo and I will be here for all the action..

I will be posting a primer on the MLS Combines later today (about 7pm ET), but for now here are some questions for SBI readers to ponder.

Will Danny Mwanga live up to the hype as the expected No. 1 overall pick?

Can Dilly Duka play his way into the top half of the first round?

Will Jack McInerney show scouts enough to spend a high pick on a 17-year old?

Which of the many left backs in the pool will step up and emerge as the best draft option?

Can players from smaller college programs, such as Collen Warner and Irving Garcia be able to prove they're as good as the players from the prestigious programs?

These are just some of the questions we plan to answer for you in the coming days so be sure to stay tuned for it all.

What are you most interested to see from this Combine? Which player do you see standing out?

  1. This year they will wear the “scudetto” patch on the jersey. In past seasons the defending champ used a silver or gold ball for their home games, too. They get the star next season.

  2. Hey Ives and crew thanks for the detailed coverage on the college game. I don’t know anything about it aside from the Terps, so this coverage is helping broaden my knowledge of the game.

  3. Wish I was there. Take a look at Two-Boys Gumede, UAB mid-fielder. He is a play maker, creative. Scored against Barry Rice to win on UK’s home turf in Oct.

Hope the weather will be better in Florida than it is here in Georgia. It’s currently 15 degrees and dropping!!

  5. Can Dilly Duka play his way into the top half of the first round?

If Dilly Duka wants to play for RBNY he should make a mess of the combine so no one but RBNY would want him. Just a thought…

  6. One dark horse player to watch out for is Taylor Waspi out of the Univ. of Wisc. He is a strong, physical defender who has a huge upside. If he can be injury free, he has the ability to have a long MLS career.

  8. Carlos Villa from Hartford was the best kid I’ve ever played with. Maybe I’m biased, because we were teammates, but give him a fair look.

  10. Wouldn’t be awesome some day to have a full channel dedicated to soccer that showed the MLS combine, i.e. like the NFL Network. I would love to see some of these guys play against each for the chance to raise their stock in the draft. I am sure it is done at a very high tempo with a lot of competition.

(SBI-It won’t be coverage of the action but MLSNet is planning to have video from the Combine. I would imagine interviews and such. I will have the Flip camera with me so I’ll see what sort of video I can come up with.)
