Houston Dynamo vs. FC Dallas: Match Night Commentary

Good afternoon everyone. We're here in Orlando, Florida for the Walt Disney Soccer Classic consolation match between FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo.

This is Franco Panizo and I will be providing commentary throughout the match so please feel free to follow along here. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

FINAL- There's the whistle and FC Dallas falls to Houston, 2-1.

90th minute- Avila takes a shot from the top of the 18, but it poses no threat as it goes wide right. That could be Dallas' last chance at an equalizer.

88th minute- It's all Houston right now. The Dynamo are wisely just keeping possession every time they get the ball.

85th minute- A nice cross from distance by Wallace is headed way wide. FC Dallas is having trouble getting deep into Houston territory.

84th minute- Alexander picks up a yellow card for a slide from behind.

83rd minute- FC Dallas doing little right now to get an equalizer. Houston is dominating possession.

80th minute- The corner gets headed out easily.

79th minute- Houston wins a corner.

75th minute- Hashimoto in. Two Hawaiians played in the same game today (Ching in the first half). Can't say that happens too often.

71st minute- FC Dallas making another change: Erick Avila comes in for Benitez.

——

69th minute- Nothing comes of this corner.

——

68th minute- The corner from McCarty lands to Ferreira and he hits a shot that Onstad knocks away for another corner.

67th minute- Lloyd is back on the field for Dallas, and serves in a cross that is cleared out for a corner.

64th minute- Lloyd takes a hard challenge from Mullan, but no foul given. Lloyd is down.

——

63rd minute- A free kick for FC Dallas results in nothing as Onstand gobbles up the cross.

——

59th minute- There's unlimited substitutions, so the Dynamo makes three more changes.. Mullan, De Leon and Oduro all coming on for Houston.

57th minute- FC Dallas making a pair of subs. Anthony Wallace comes in for Brek Shea, and rookie Zach Lloyd in for Edward.

53rd minute- GOAL HOUSTON! 2-1! A bad backpass from Boyd gifts Houston a breakaway, but the shot is blocked and falls to Weaver, who knocks in the rebound from 25 yards.

50th minute- Shea and Weaver both go hard for a 50/50 ball, and Shea comes up a little upset about the challenge.

47th minute- Sala makes a good save on a chipped shot by Appiah.

——

HALFTIME- No changes for FC Dallas, but Houston makes six subs, including replacing Ching.

HALFTIME- Houston's back three are having a problem with set pieces and long balls. If FC Dallas can continue what it's doing, another goal will come.

45th minute- The Dynamo wins a corner, but nothing comes of it and the ref blows the whistle for halftime.

43rd minute- Another FC Dallas corner is awarded. This one lands to the right foot of Harris, and his shot goes wide right. Another close opportunity, Houston is struggling to defend set pieces.

40th minute- This corner is cleared out, but FC Dallas maintaining the pressure.

39th minute- The corner results in a shot by Shea but it gets deflected and FC Dallas gets another corner.

38th minute- A corner for FC Dallas.

34th minute- Houston is enjoying more possession, but FC Dallas continues to counter with precise long balls behind the Dynamo's three-man defense.

31st minute- Shea takes a low shot from distance, but it is well off the mark.

27th minute- McCarty gets by a defender with a nice move before unleashing a right footed shot that goes wide right. Really wide right.

23rd minute- A good cross finds an open Ferreira, but his header goes wide. That was a good look, and should have had some better finishing.

20th minute- Ching almost springs Chabala with an overhead pass, but a late challenge by Purdy stops any idea of a look on goal.

——

17th minute- Onstad swats away a dangerous cross. The game's tempo is picking up.

15th minute- GOAL! 1-1! WOW! A beautiful strike from range by Palmer stings off the right post and into the back of the net. Beautiful.

13th minute- GOAL! 1-0 FC Dallas. Ferreira taps in easily from close range after Harris feeds him from eight yards out. Robinson got stripped off the ball which started the sequence.

10th minute- Still no good chances on goal. Hopefully this isn't a repeat of Friday's first game, which also ended 0-0 between the New York Red Bulls and the Dynamo.

7th minute- Houston now enjoying some nice possession. Ching looks good out there so far.

5th minute- Brek Shea doing some nice work on the left flank.

3rd minute – Both teams just getting a feel for the game right now. Surprised there's no Cunningham? Don't be. Cunningham told me on Thursday that he picked up a knock during the match vs. El Salvador.

1st minute- And we're off. Which Texas-based team will claim third place?
