This weekend’s soccer on TV

John Terry (ISIphotos.com)

The most anticipated meeting of the weekend isn't Aston Villa-Manchester United in the Carling Cup, or Sporting Lisbon vs. FC Porto, or even Bayern Munich vs. Hamburg.

It's John Terry vs. Wayne Bridge.

The two men involved in one of the sports most controversial scandals in recent memory are expected to be on the field against each other today when Terry's Chelsea faces Bridge's Manchester City in a match with plenty of its own drama.

There is plenty of non-drama soccer to enjoy, such as Tottenham-Everton and the aforementioned top matches.

Here is a rundown of this weekend's Soccer on TV:

  1. amen, it took me a week to figure it out, and i was late for a usmnt game…that was like 3 years ago, and now i know, but still, it would help the noobs significantly.

  2. where did you hear that they were committed to playing him? I want him to play too, I just have never heard of him ever really getting close to the first team. He is one of those guys I think MLS should really try and get back somehow. Intelligent, has an eye for a good pass, good technique. I really like him, but I want to see him play!

  4. Dude – obviously I know to add 3 hours to the posted times. I’m just saying for the new or casual reader who may live anywhere within the US it would be helpful to note “all times are eastern standard unless otherwise noted”. Without such a note you’re assuming people are either familiar with this site or live on the east coast. It was just a constructive suggestion.

  5. IVES has Bob Bradley kept tabs on Jermaine Jones or is the injured WORLD CLASS defensive midfielder not even in the discussion of the South Africa World Cup?

  6. Lol this guy ^. What is up with ESPN showing games at 4:45am? Is it that hard to figure out? ESPN shows games live and England is 8 hours ahead, so that’s a 12:45 pm game there. I don’t think the Premier League is too concerned about catering to Americans on the West Coast.

I live in California so I’m not getting up at 4:45 am either but it’s called getting a VCR or a DVR.

  7. When is Jared Jefferey gonna start getting some minutes or at least dressing for Mainz 05?? I thought they were committed to playing him. Do any of the SBI writers know what the deal is? Please.

  8. I wonder what the odds are on Bridge shaking Terry’s hand during the pre-game line handshakes…I’m sure that the bookies in the UK have such a prop. They may not be as high as Bridge punch/slapping terry during the handshakes…

  9. I hope Stu plays, but I am not sure one game moves him up the chart. Especially a 4-0 loss. Also, will the coach trust young blood in a relegation battle? The only good thing is Coyle likes to pass the ball and a lot of Bolton’s players are incapable of this. Holden though has some technique.

I am going with Chelsea v Man City, the Pachuca v Pumas match, and Man Utd v Villa. I would love to watch more but I got a lot of papers due these next two weeks and may have to hit the books.

  10. hope Stu gets some minutes. He didnt make 1 mistake everytime he touched the ball. He has to be ahead of weiss on the depth chart.
He played as well as anyone couldve hoped without scoring.
