Fabio Capello is contracted with England through the 2012 European Championship, but with the Three Lions' exiting early from the World Cup, his future has become unclear.
Despite telling the FA he would like to remain as England's manager, Capello will have to wait two weeks to find out if England's ruling body would like him to remain. Capello is on the hot seat after England was trounced, 4-1, by Germany in the round of 16 in the World Cup on Sunday.
Capello stated he already has plans for England should he remain, including bringing in younger players for the next World Cup cycle.

Fabiano open to Man. United move
Luis Fabiano may be under contract with Sevilla, but that hasn't stopped him from publicly admitting his desire to play for Manchester United.
Fabiano said he will not extend his contract with Sevilla and that he would like to secure a move to a bigger club, with Manchester United being one of his top choices.
Despite Sevilla claiming that it won't sell Fabiano, AC Milan and Tottenham have also been linked with moves for the Brazilian striker. Fabiano has ruled out joining the Tottenham, however, as he wants to join a club he feels has Champions League aspirations.
City near Silva deal
Manchester City's summer spending could begin with a swap of players, as the club looks to sign Valencia midfielder David Silva in exchange for striker Roque Santa Cruz. Silva has been linked with Manchester City for some time, and the move appears closer than ever to completion as Valencia looks to strengthen its depleted attacking options.
FFF president to quit
The mess in France just continues to get bigger.
French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes has stated he will step down from the position later this week after he meets with France's National Assembly to discuss the disaster that was France's World Cup.
France had a disastrous showing in South Africa, with in-team fighting plaguing the team as it failed to win a match en route to finishing last in Group A behind Uruguay, Mexico and the hosts.

Anton Peterlin? Are you serious? He’s 23 and NEVER played one minute for a serious professional team. He plays essentially the same position as Michael Bradley – except he’s older, slower, not as technical and not nearly as accomplished. What would you want with Anton Peterlin?
I think the only two I would keep are Gourcuff and Lloris, but other than that, I’m OK with this decision since Nasri is my favorite French player and he wasn’t even called in to the team.
Lletget never said that he probably wouldn’t. He said that it’d be hard to turn down Italy, but he’s still fully American. He’s best friends with Spector. No way Spector would let him make that mistake

That’s insulting that you think Fletcher would not be on the English National Team already. He is one of the EPL’s best midfielders. Of course, you didn’t even know he was Scottish so you’re probably not that informed anyway. Oh yeah, and he’s the captain…

Think about the Galaxy’s back line. All young, all progressing leaps and bounds each year… we will have a solid balance of youth and experience in the next few years.

Gourcouff might be an elite player by the next World Cup. And all 3 of their goalies are still pretty young.Gignac, Clichy and Diaby also could be in their prime by next world cup.
The only out and put strikers on your list are Charlie and Altidore, and neither of them or both together will strike fear in top shelf teams.
More fresh young talent must be found, US has ways to go, the tlent pool is still not very deep.

Although the French are great at surrendering, this is a terrible idea.
In the full article Fabiano noted that he believe’s Seville is a bigger club than Tottenham. Seville have won two European Cups recently and have made the Champions League more than Tottenham. Fabiano has also played for those Seville teams that beat Tottenham multiple times in recent UEFA Cups.
I don’t blame Fabiano for not wanting to go to Tottenham. Seriously, he is either going to win the golden boot or finish second. He is above Tottenham’s pay grade.
Speaking of midfielders, I rewatched the second half against Ghana, and the more I see of Feilhaber, the more I like. He is a composed presence on the ball and he makes good decisions. He will, hopefully, be more of a factor in the next cycle. I hope whoever the coach is realizes his value and he gets more of a shot.
Yeah. I was impressed with Marlon Duran in from what I saw of him in the U-17 WC. He is a beast in the middle, he’s short and stocky, but Reyna isn’t the biggest guy in the world.
I think he could be a stud. He’s more of a defensive midfielder, at least that’s where he played in the U-17 WC.
On to France: I think the solution is that every player – EVERY SINGLE ONE – who was on the team for this WC never, ever gets to wear a France kit again. EVER. Harsh, and unrealistic, and it would force them to suck for a while (or maybe not? They suck now.) That would send a message as to what kind of a disgrace they were to their country and their fans.

I won’t think about those multiple-nationality guys until they actually play for us (Lletget actually said he probably wouldn’t). Diskerud said he’d play for whoever called first – USA or Norway. Peterlin can play for Denmark. Gil can play for Mexico. Only Bernardo said he wanted to play for the USA.
But like you said…it’s still a matter of the fact that all are big up-and-comers are all midfielders, which is our best position.
Lest we forget Heath Pearce, guy is still only 25.

What about Luis Gil, Marlon Duran, Joseph Gyau, Charlie Renken, Sebastian Lletget, Mikel Diskerud, Cody Arnoux, Anton Peterlin…what do we think about them?
I know most of these guys are midfielders and we’re pretty deep there. Also, is there anything new from Devann Yao and Vincenzo Bernardo? (Seriouly asking, not joking.)
Yeah, I don’t think Howard is much of an age concern because keepers are in their prime in their middle 30’s

You’re right – forgot about Young.
However, I haven’t been impressed with Welbeck. He’s a bit selfish and has no idea when to pass/shoot. Fergie said as much.
Gonzalez, Cameron (who is a converted midfielder but Kinnear thinks his best position is left mid so he could possibly play left back), Daniel Williams, Eric Lichaj(sp?), Goodson, Spector, Bornstein, Sean Franklin, Kevin Alston, Darius Barnes, most of these guys have been called in for at least one camp in 2010. They are all young and I’ve heard good things about most of them.
We also have Gale Ag(however you spell it), Ike Opara, Sheanon Williams, who are younger and some from the U-17 squad that will be pretty good.
There is a good young crop coming up.
Ives is notorious for saying he’ll do something and then he doesn’t do it. I wouldn’t expect it for a while, if at all.
Donovan will be 32 and Dempsey 31. As Dempsey’s not a burner anyway, he’ll be fine (and actually probably more of a creative force). Howard will be 35, still perfect in terms of years for a goalie.

Darren Fletcher (26) could grow over the next 4 years into a nice piece in center midfield.
Danny Welbeck is only 19 and has both height and pace.
Opara, Agbossoumonde, Gonzalez, Kyle Davies (if he can ever get over his injury problems), Marlon Duran (if people can overlook his size), Michael Orozco (maybe) all show very strong defensive abilities. Remember that the young core not only includes the guys on the team now, but those guys that are 17-20 years old now and will be 21-24 when the cup starts next cycle. There are some very promising guys that are coming up on both the offensive and defensive sides and a few keepers that I believe have some good talent as well.
The latest thing I heard about Najar is that he was going to play for Honduras. And Hamid will be very young in Goalie years.
Gale Agbossoumonde. He is a beast and has made a couple starts for Braga’s full team.

Someone needs to point out to Fabiano that Tottenham are in the Champions League.
If BB doesn’t stay on as manager, his successor will be able to fully evaluate our pool with a clear head. I feel like Bruce Arena felt obligated to use the guys he won with in 2002 and that really hurt in 2006. And I’m fearful Bradley will rely too heavily on the 2010 guys to carry the load into this cycle… the core of the team will have aged quite a bit by 2013-14 (Donovan, Dempsey, Howard, Onyewu).
Does anyone agree?
Also, does anyone think the young talented Hamid and Nyjar have a chance to make an impact by 2014?

England will be talented enough next cycle that they will go into another World Cup overhyped and overrated.
I forgot about Jermaine Jones actually. Who do we have to look forward to at the Defensive end coming up?
Don’t forget that England has the likes of Wilshere, Welbeck and Rodwell (just to name 3) that were just too young and inexperienced internationally to make the team this cycle.
Also, I think Jermaine Jones, if healthy, could provide excellent defensive cover and allow Bradley to push farther up the field.
That’s a mighty big if, though.

We do have serious defensive talent…and, just like this year, it’s all at CB and not and LB/RB. Hopefully, Spector can right his sinking ship.
Yeah, England has some serious talent issues to contend with for 2014.
The US, on the other hand, need a total defense revamping. I mean, think about it – our offense will be ridiculous in 2014.
Charlie Davies, Altidore, Donovan, Edu, Bradley, and Dempsey will be our midfield and forwards – yikes!
However, it is our defense that will need completely re-worked. I hope we have some good young defensive talent coming up…
I never really realized this, but England’s pipeline is much drier than the USA’s. Outside of Rooney (who’s flopped in 2 straight world cups), Milner (my pick for England’s captain in 2014), Johnson (exposed), Hart (untested) and Lennon, every one of the players will be past their primes. Adam Johnson wasn’t called up and has a chance to be very good. Walcott has shown he has no soccer IQ. Agbonlahor will need to better understand the game as well, but he’s much farther along than the other two. Who is going to strike fear into opponents in 2014? Who is the next can’t miss prospect for them? I can’t see anyone, and it makes me happy.
Contrast that to Germany, who has 2 starters (Klose and Freidrich) who won’t be around. The remaining 9 will be in their prime for the next WC. That’s just ridiculous.
Once again the English will use the manager as the scapegoat. They will say the players showed no fire and all that jazz. But, completely gloss over the fact they are just not that good. They shouldn’t expect to win the world Cup. They are not the elite National Team they view themselves as.
Capello stays on… McClaren was a bigger disaster and they don’t want another knee-jerk decision to haunt them down the road…unless it’s Alex Ferguson, Wenger or Morinho- what other manager (outside of Hiddink who just signed with Turkey) would be a clear-cut favorite for this gig…
My guess is FA grits their teeth and keeps Capello on to avoid hiring a fourth manager in 5 years
I agree…they will check with some other managers and have a replacement ready before they release him. If they don’t get someone better to agree, they keep him.
IMO they need an Englishman. He would better understand the players.
Disclaimer: It was not the fact that Fabio Capello was Italian that made John Terry play like a zombie or Gareth Barry run like a geriatric. I just think that an English manager would understand the type of mentality that the Brits have and be a bit better suited for the job.
I could see Capello staying, the FA and he know that the team needs to be blown up and started fresh with young talent. It’s not like Capello and the FA are facing opposing view points on how to develop the team. So I’d say it’s 50/50…
