Jermaine Jones scored his first Bundesliga goal in a year and a half on Saturday, netting an equalizer in Schalke 04's 2-1 loss to Hannover 96.

Jones headed home a long free kick in the 82nd minute to give Schalke some hope of avoiding the upset, but Steve Cherundolo's squad held on for the victory. Cherundolo played 90 minutes for Hannover.

Jones finished the match with an 88th-minute yellow card before being subbed off in the 90th minute.

Here is a clip of the goal (at the 3:26 mark) along with full match highlights:

  1. It’s you.

Also, with respect to Ives’ account of the goal, it was not the “equalizer”. Schalke was trailing 2-0 when Jones scored.

  2. oh yeah, he made some good passes. I just thought that he didn’t boss the MF much and since Hanover was playing pure counter football, it shouldn’t have been hard for Schalke to control the center a bit better. Just my two cents really.

And I am biased against Jones so my opinion is suspect. 🙂

  3. He definitely didn’t track back particularly well but his passing was good and at times very good. Edu blew a nice cross he had and Jones also split a few defenders with a nice ball through to the wing at one point.

  4. Nice finish by Jones–from the (grainy) video clip, it looks like the ball was coming in fast, so good reflexes on his part. Also, Hanover has sharp kits.

  5. Jones was a factor in MF for a while but really didn’t play well. He wandered a lot. The announcer, a rather positive-attitude kinda guy kept making excuses for him which tells me that he really was as bad as I thought. Damn good goal though.
