It isn't often when football players pay homages to soccer in their scoring celebrations, but Canadian Football League wide receiver Dave Stala of the Hamilton Tiger Cats did just that last week as he pulled off one of the more impressive touchdown celebrations you'll ever see.
Enjoy.
No word yet on which NFL player will try to pull this off, though noted soccer lover and self-professed soccer player Chad Ochocinco seems like a prime candidate. Also, there is no truth to the rumor that Toronto FC has already filed a discovery claim on the 30-year-old receiver.
What do you think of the celebration? See anybody in NFL trying it?

Good grief, are you people serious? This isn’t a “news” story. It’s a silly half-minute clip involving another sport in another country. The YouTube video has all of 151,000 hits.
It’s not some smoking hot breaking news that anyone got scooped on. And anyway, hadn’t Ives been on vacation?
Let it go, man. Don’t be a jerk.
STFU.
Robert, too.
Is that different than the Stanky leg? Maybe I missed something…
And when an MLS player spikes the ball it earns him a yellow card.
I hear Chivas needs a DP.
Didn’t mean anything by it. Gunner04’s comment is accurate. In this day and age, and with the endless amount of news, clips, etc. available on TV and Internet, 4 days feels like an eternity. Feels like it was almost a week ago that I first saw this. Either way, stupid sportscenter anchor calling this a hacky sack move, is obviously not a golfer (stolen from Big Lewbowski).
Beats the Iggy Shuffle by a factor of 100…
I would love an ongoing ‘Best Goal Celebration’ topic. I nominate the following:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82wM8s-_2RM
It is handegg….not even a real sport.
I love the dig on the French right at the end. hahahaha
Too bad they didn’t win. The Ti-Cats are 1-4 so far. Nice celebration though.
A bit harder to do than the stinky leg.
just, to play devils advocate, saturday was four days ago, it was on espn at least two days ago. and i think that we all take for granted the amount of work you do, and so when you get scooped by sportscenter on something like this, its… unusual.
in the 24 hour news cycle of todays world, four days is a pretty long time for the premier soccer specific blog of the US to be behind on a “news story”. i love what you do and the effort you put in to the blog, but perhaps Robert Smith has a point. The definition of being “late” to the party has changed. I dont think Robert was attacking you or anything like that.
Haha that was a nice celebration. Im sure Ochocinco is practicing it
pretty sure that would get an NFL player arrested.
Nice!
OK, that was awesome.
The NFL should give kickers the opportunity to get three points instead of one after a touchdown for doing that.
Like it
And there’s a future Hamilton NASL/MLS Season Ticket Holder right there
Looks like we have found our stile partner for Jozy in 2014.
Go Ti-Cats!
Yeah, it’s pretty tough to do, not to mention gutsy. If you mess up in that situation, you just end up looking like an idiot. Full marks from me.
Cap him now.
You’re late the party on this Ives, been out for a while now… When Sportscenter showed this clip, the female anchor called it a “hacky sack” maneuever. Oy vey!
(SBI-This just happened on Saturday. Not sure how we’re so “late” to the party.)
If he really wanted to impress he should have bicycled it on that last touch…
Hamilton TIGER-CATS…not Wildcats
(SBI-My bad.)
Is City after him yet?
Polish international. Can we get him a passport.
“Boy, the French soccer team could have used him.”
Wait a minute! The commentator just slayed the F*** out of the French soccer team!!! Oh $#!%!!!!
Wow. Good control.
Any word on which MLS team is looking to sign the Wild Cats starlet?
I can’t wait for the dope that complains how terrible the defending was on that maneuver.
Hmmm, right footed only.
NFL guy does that and its 15 yards and $50k. CFL guy does that and the ref doesn’t walk away until he’s done watching the show.
Take notes Goodell. Ban throat slashing and vulgarity, that’s ok. Ban fun…that’s a problem.
Couldn’t be worse than Nick Garcia.
In our area’s high school football all-star game, a wide receiver, after scoring a touchdown, celebrated by “taking a penalty kick” on another player who “played goalie”. After the player made the pk, he proceeded to celebrate the goal in style, it was absolutely hilarious.
Just another sign of how soccer is growing in our country…oh wait… that was the CFL? nevermind.
Definitely harder to do with a football though. He practiced that one.
Not without a $20,000 following.
