Carlos Salcido may be best known to American fans for his performances for Mexico in the rivalry against the U.S. national team, but now he'll also be known for playing alongside two Americans.

Fulham signed Salcido from PSV Eindhoven to a three-year deal with a transfer figure estimated to be at $2.03 million. By joining Fulham, Salcido will play for the second European club in his career, and makes him teammates with U.S. national team players Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson.

Salcido is Mark Hughes' third signing since taking over as Fulham's manager, having brought in striker Moussa Dembele and Algeria defender Rafik Halliche earlier this summer.

Here are some other transfer stories from the weekend:

Meireles joins Liverpool from Porto

Raul Meireles' impressive showing with Portugal at the World Cup has helped earn him a transfer from FC Porto to Liverpool. Meireles is being seen as a replacement for Javier Mascherano, whose ongoing saga with the Reds ended with a transfer to Barcelona this weekend. The reported transfer fee was approximately $14.6 million.

Sunderland eyeing Gyan

Sunderland has begun negotiations with Stade Rennes for forward Asamoah Gyan. The Ghana international, who scored three goals at this summer's World Cup, is being looked at as a replacement for Kenwyne Jones, who left Sunderland for Stoke City earlier in the transfer window.

Just 24, Gyan has scored 22 times in 44 caps for his country.

Trezeguet signs with Hercules

David Trezeguet has completed his surprising move to recently-promoted Hercules Alicante, signing with the club as a free agent. While the move may come as a surprise, it is believed that Trezeguet's wife, who was born in Alicante, had a major role in convincing the former French international to sign there.

Trezeguet joins Hercules after having had his contract with Juventus terminated earlier this summer.

What do you think of Salcido's transfer to Fulham? How will Meireles fare in the Premiership? Hoping Gyan makes the move to Sunderland? Prefer to have seen Trezeguet sign with Xena?

  2. Your post features a small picture of the Chicago Fire logo….and you’re calling Liverpool a sh*thole of a club?

That’s like having a Washington Nationals fan call the Yankees or Red Sox a sh*thole…or a Columbus Blue Jackets fan calling the Montreal Canadiens a sh*thole. It’s a NASCAR fan saying that the Ferrari Formula 1 team is a sh*thole.

Have a sense of perspective. And if you’re attacking them because their fans don’t like the US, you should probably do some research. Most of the world doesn’t like the US…

  3. Meireles came relatively cheap given his age and skill, most likely because he only has two years left on his contract. He’s a tackling machine for Porto and Portugal.

  5. I guess they don’t like what the Yanks have to offer, and I really can’t blame them either. Meanwhile, Landon Donovan gets to rot in LA….
