College Soccer: Sunday Rewind

The weekend of action in college soccer wrapped up without any real surprises as the top 25 teams went five for six on Sunday, Only Harvard suffered a defeat, marking the Crimson's fifth match without a win.

A 74th-minute winner from Stephen Baker broke a 1-1 tie and gave No. 25 Pennsylvania a victory over Richmond. Loukas Tasigianis opened the scoring for Penn in the 24th minute but Houston Oldham equalized on the hour mark.

No. 9 Southern Methodist needed overtime to dispatch Jacksonville 2-1. Nedim Hurstic gave the unranked Dolphins an early lead with a 13th minute header. Josue Soto equalized for the Mustangs in the 70th minute and a 93rd-minute golden goal from Arthur Ivo secured the comeback victory.

No. 15 Michigan State opened their Big 10 campaign with a 1-0 defeat of Northwestern. Goals from Spencer Thompson and Jeff Ricondo were enough for the Spartans.  Second-half goals from Matt Hedges and Ben Sippola gave No. 17 Butler a 2-0 victory over Milwaukee. 

No. 21 Harvard ended up on the wrong end of their Boston derby, losing 2-1 to Boston University. Ben Berube upended the Crimson with a 57th-minute winner. No. 13 UCLA rebounded nicely from a Friday-night loss to down Cal State Fullerton 3-2 in nearly 100 degree heat.  Reed Williams nabbed an 85th-minute winner for the Bruins.
