Duke and North Carolina are about to write another chapter in the storied "Tobacco Road Rivalry" when the two teams clash today in Durham.

No. 11 Duke and No. 4 UNC are only seperated by about eight miles and house one of the fiercest rivalries in college sports. North Carolina will look to slow down Duke's Ryan Finley, who's scored seven goals in three games, including two hat tricks. As a bonus, the match will be televised on Fox Soccer Channel at 6:30.

Elsewhere in the ACC, No. 14 Wake Forest travels to No. 2 Virginia on Saturday in a battle of the 2007 and 2009 national Champions. Wake Forest have gotten off to a slow start and a win or draw against the Cavaliers could finally kick their season into gear. The match kicks off at 7:00.

This Weekend's Top NCAA Men's Soccer Matches

TODAY

No. 5 Monmouth at Seton Hall, 3PM: Seton Hall broke a three-game losing streak with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson last week but can they compete with a Monmouth side who are looking like legitimate title contenders?

Villanova at No. 22 Pennsylvania, 5PM: Newly-ranked Pennsylvania welcomes a Villanova squad trying to break a three-game winless streak.

Marquette at No. 19 Michigan State, 5PM: Michigan State has won their past four game by a combined score of 8-1. Marquette will be looking to kick start their offense after scoring only two goals in their first five games.

Boston University at No. 13 Boston College, 7PM: Boston College will be looking to keep pace in the hyper-competitive ACC by welcoming their in-state rivals.

No. 24 Indiana at Brown, 7PM: The Hoosiers look to steady their up and down season against a surprisingly undefeated Brown University.

Cal State Northridge at No. 1 Akron, 7:30PM: The top-ranked Zips shouldn't have too much trouble against the Matadors, who have yet to win a game this season.

Hartford at No. 20 St. John's, 8PM: Tadeu Terra has three goals and two assists over the past two games to help St. John's rebound from its 5-0 demolition by Virginia.

Saint Louis at No. 3 Tulsa, 8:05PM: The Golden Hurricanes have outscored their opponents 17-2 so far this season, tallying a 5-0 record thus far.

No. 23 Penn State at Air Force, 9PM: Freshman forward Jordan Tyler has tallied three goals over two games as the Nittany Lions face a reeling Air Force squad.

No. 17 UCLA at Cal Poly, 10PM: The Bruins travel to a Cal Poly side who managed to trip up an Indiana Hoosiers team that embarrassed UCLA 5-1 two weeks ago.

SATURDAY

Missouri State at No. 12 Louisville, 7PM: Missouri State travel to Cardinal Park to take on a Lousville side that have yet to lose this season.

North Carolina State at No. 7 Maryland, 7PM: 3-3 won't cut it in the ACC as North Carolina State look to get back above .500 but the seventh-ranked Maryland Terrapins are stiff competition.

No. 21 Butler at Oakland, 7PM: The Butler Bulldogs were not on anyone's radar at the beginning of the season but a 5-0 start has grabbed everyone's attention. Butler should take care of business against a mediocre Oakland side.

Washington at No. 15 Portland, 7PM: An unbeaten Portland team welcome a Washington Huskies side who are 2-1-1 so far on their five-game road trip to start the season.

Ohio State at Florida Gulf Coast, 7PM: The Buckeyes dropped their first game of the season against South Florida Thursday night. We'll see how well they rebound against the University of Florida, Golf Coast.

SUNDAY

No. 22 Pennsylvania at Georgetown, 1PM: Two straight 3-1 losses have seen the Hoyas drop out of the rankings and in need of a turnaround. Will the home field advantage be enough to take out Pennsylvania?

No. 24 Indiana at Massachusetts, 1PM: Indiana has shown is vulnerability on the road so far this season but Massachusetts has yet to win a game this season.

N.J.I.T at No. 5 Monmouth, 1PM: This is another game Monmouth should win comfortably even after only two days of rest.

No. 8 Connecticut at South Carolina, 1PM: This could be a dangerous road trip for UConn. South Carolina are difficult to beat at home.

No. 19 Michigan State at Notre Dame, 2PM: The Fighting Irish are just outside of the Top 25 trying to force their way in and Michigan State could suffer the consequences.

No. 6 Harvard at New Mexico, 2PM: The Harvard Crimson will be looking to take advantage of New Mexico's inconsistency.

Cincinnati at No. 1 Akron, 2:30PM: The Cincinnatti Bearcats are undefeated so far this season but have yet to face any serious competition. That will change when they travel to top-ranked Akron.

No. 23 Penn State at Denver, 3PM: The Denver defense has yet to keep a clean sheet this season but the offense is averaging about 2.25 goals per game.

No. 18 Southern Methodist at Bradley, 3:30PM: A blistering 5-0 start by Southern Methodist have seen them move up to 18 in the rankings. Bradley shouldn't provide much of a challenge.

No. 10 UC-Irvine at Sacramento State, 4PM: UC-Irvine is looking to stay perfect on the season and Sacramento State, with their record of 2-2, are unlikely to provide much resistance.

San Diego at No. 17 UCLA, 5PM: San Diego will face a tough test in their trip up north. UCLA will be operating off of short rest but San Diego's lack of a class striker will make it difficult to find goals against the Bruins.

San Francisco at No. 25 California: San Francisco will be looking to snap a three-game winless streak when the Dons travel to face California, which will be looking to stay in the top 25 with a win.

Long Island at No. 20 St. John's: This battle of New York is likely to go to St. John's as Long Island was fairly inept in its previous two games, losing by a combined 5-0.

Comments

  1. I was at the Michigan State game, and it was a very one-sided affair.

The score line ended with MSU winning 1-0, but the vast majority of the game was controlled by the Spartans.
