This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

Steven Gerrard (Reuters)

Long-time rivals Manchester United and Liverpool square off on Sunday to headline this weekend's soccer action.

United will be looking to erase the bad taste of last week's 3-3 tie vs. Everton, while Liverpool will look to improve on last week's disappointing showing against Birmingham.

Manchester United-Liverpool is just one of the quality match-ups on tap this week. In Europe, you have Bordeaux-Lyon, Atletico Madrid-Barcelona and Sampdoria-Napoli among the top matches to watch. In the Americans, the Flamengo-Fluminense rivalry and Toluca-Club America tilts will be worth watching.

MLS has its own good games to catch, including Columbus vs. Seattle and Real Salt Lake vs. the Chicago Fire.

Here is a rundown of this weekend's soccer on TV:

  1. avram grant won’t be there long at this rate. I don’t know how he is coaching in england at all, much less with his 3rd club. How did he end up at Chelsea but Bob Bradley or any American can’t get consideration for even Aston Villa or Fulham?

  2. I wish the Man U – Liverpool match was on the Fox Soccer Channel or Fox Sports en Espanol.. I can’t get my provider to offer Fox Soccer Plus….

  3. I would agree with you on Spector but not on Jacobsen. 95% of the time he passes back. He doesn’t go forward at all. His passes in the 5% of the time he doesn’t go back seem to usually find Stoke players and he has been consistently beaten. However, he has made one good save.

  4. I don’t think were gonna see Spector feature for West Ham any time soon.

Adam Grant’s brought in a lot of options in the back and and today Jacobsen doesn’t look bad at all on the right side.

  5. Spector didn’t make the bench last week and I don’t think that he played in the reserve game this week so he may be injured – not that he would make the bench based on his recent performance but he should have played in the reserve game.

  6. My Directv guide has the Fulham/Blackburn game on FSC HD at 2pm pst. And the Bolton / Villa game on FSC plus at 3pm pst.. but not on the HD channel..

(SBI-Those are correct. I missed those when putting the schedule together because those weren’t listed as live matches, but as replays. They’re included on this schedule now.)

  7. So another poster got bitten by the revise without telling anyone bug?

I don’t really trust ESPN2 to actually broadcast Atlético-Barcelona either, meaning I’ll have once again DVRed log rolling or some such when I could have enjoyed Toluca beating América.

ESPN does show it in their listing grid, though.

  8. I hate those early fsp games on Sunday. Thats 530 am west coast time so bars won’t be open. I would get the stupid channel too but my cable company doesn’t offer it. No way I am getting up to steam the game either.
