Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

Maurice Edu 6 (Reuters)

By FRANCO PANIZO

Maurice Edu may have had an up-and-down Champions League game against Valencia, but he'll need to quickly put that past him as Rangers take on Celtic in a battle of unbeatens this weekend.

Both teams enter the Old Firm derby with eight wins in as many matches, and the winner will take an early lead in the race for supremacy in the SPL. Despite sitting on just two days rest when the game kicks off, Edu could be looked at to help neutralize a Celtic attack that will be bolstered by its home fans at Celtic Park.

Benny Feilhaber will also be on relatively short rest when he and AGF Aarhus square off versus Skive this weekend. Feilhaber scored the winner off a free kick in a 4-1 decision against Fyn on Wednesday, and he'll be hoping to build off that performance as Aarhus continues its dominance in Denmark's second tier.

Looking for an intriguing battle of Americans? Look no further than IK Start's fixture against Stabaek IF, where Clarence Goodson and Hunter Freeman will attempt to contain Mikkel Diskerud. A potential battle of central midfielders could also occur should Ricardo Clark and Jermaine Jones both see the field when Eintracht Frankfurt faces Schalke 04.

  1. Question 6. RESPECT I think Bob Bradley respects them considering one was our captain and the other played every minute in south africa. or am I missing your statement

  2. Questions 2 is deffinetely yes. I think he continues to get more and more skill even though he’s speed might decline. He and Donovan again will be the most important field players

  3. questions for everyone.

    1) Should Dempsey try a chance abroad come January or end of the season?
    2) Do any of you think he’ll start or even play come the next WC?
    3) Which league do you see Goodson going to come January? Denmark or Germany or Holland?
    4) Will Bedoya leave his Swedish club next year?
    5) Can Donovan please return to Everton?
    6) Where is the respect for Cherundolo and Bocanegra? Both have been decent defenders playing for good teams in Europe for the past many years?

  4. How is Ricardo Clark at Frankfurt? I know he makes the bench majority of the games but does he get 10 or 15 as a sub? Does he get a chance to start in cup matches or will he compete for a starting spot by year’s end?

either way he’s making a good paycheck and that’s always good for an american in europe

  6. I really thought Mikkel Diskerud would get his chance against either Poland or Colombia. It may not have happened, but I think it could happen against South Africa. At the very latest it will happen against Chile in January because of the Scandinavian break.
