USSF D2: Pore named scoring champ, Janicki best defender

Two final games are all that remains in the USSF D-2 season, but the first round of postseason awards were doled out Wednesday.

To no surprise, Ryan Pore was named the league's top goal scorer, finishing the season on 15 goals, one more than future teammate Eddie Johnson, who scored 14 for the Austin Aztex in 2010.

The Vancouver Whitecaps were rewarded for having the best defense in USSF D2 — conceding a league-low 22 goals — as Greg Janicki was tabbed as the Defender of the Year. Janicki joined Vancouver ahead of the 2010 season after two years with D.C. United, appearing in all 30 games for the Whitecaps.

Rookie of the Year went to Maxwell Griffin of the Austin Aztex, posting 10 goals on the year, and Coach of the Year, to Bob Lilley of the Rochester Rhinos. Lilley led a complete makeover of the New York club, leading them to the best record in the USSF Second Division. The rest of the awards will be handed out Thursday.

What do you think about the D2 awards? Will Janicki return to MLS for Vancouver in 2011? Can Griffin find a team in MLS?

Greg Janicki wins a Defender of the Year award? Will wonders never cease? Vancouver must’ve used a 4-man back line, instead of htat 3-man idiocy Soehn kept trying out at DC.

We’ve already lost Johnson. I’d like to hold on to Max for another year, if you please.

The only award I care about is the D2 Championship. Go Railhawks! Oh… and USSF sanctioning for next year.

Janicki really came on, especially after Akwari was hurt.

I’d expect Vancouver to their USSF D-2 Priority Ranking top pick on Maxwell. He’s 3 years younger and 3 inches taller than Johnson.
