Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

Tim Howard and Everton have not lost in their last seven games, and if they are to extend that streak, they'll have to do so against a team they haven't defeated in league play since 2007.

Everton hosts Arsenal in a game the Gunners need in order to keep within striking distance of first place. The Toffees haven't tasted victory against Arsenal since a 1-0 win in March 2007, so a big day will likely be needed from Howard if Everton is to change that.

Howard isn't the only goalkeeper slated to play in a big game this weekend. Brad Friedel and Aston Villa will attempt to jump in the standings when they take on Manchester United. Friedel is certain to start, while Eric Lichaj will be hoping to build on his debut before flying to South Africa.

Jozy Altidore could also potentially play against one of the bigger clubs in the world this weekend. Fresh off scoring a goal in the Copa del Rey, Altidore could make a cameo off the bench when Villarreal faces Barcelona. A win for Altidore and Villarreal would put them ahead of Barcelona and in second place in La Liga.

Here is a rundown of who the Americans Abroad play this weekend:

How do you see Howard and Everton faring against Arsenal? Is a win in store for Friedel and Aston Villa against Manchester United? Do you see Lichaj coming off the bench? How do you think Altidore would fare against Barcelona should he get on the pitch?

  1. I think a return for him to MLS, particularly DC United, is so obvious a solution that if he is still sitting in the stands in europe next spring I think his agent and he should be questioned heavily as to what in the world is going on.

Hype or not, he should be able to play in the MLS, so I don’t understand why he is wasting away while most successful euro yanks spent these years of their youth developing in the MLS.

  2. Not suprising and hopefully a good thing for Spector to get some pt and rediscover his form. Would like to see him go to a midtable club in Germany and wonder what kind of offers he’ll get.

  3. I was really bored yesterday and was watching some of his old videos on YouTube. The kid had some magic moments. Shame to see it go to waste, but he is young still, hopefully he can get it together again

  4. Nice.

I wonder why people even bother asking. As far as I know he’s basically exiled from the team. I don’t think he’s even training with Aris.

  5. Rangers web site saying Edu’s injury does not appear serious and will have a precautionary scan. Let’s hope that is in fact the case.
