Cleveland State's shocking defeat of top-ranked Akron highlighted a weekend full of upsets as nine schools lost or were drawn by lower-ranked opposition.
Cleveland State toppled the formerly indomitable Zips with a wild six minutes late in the second half for a 2-1 upset. Aslinn Rodas received a cross from Caleb Eastham and blasted a shot home from 18 yards out in the 79th minute. Michael Nanchoff equalized for Akron from the penaly spot just three mintues later but Cleveland completed the upset two minutes later with a goal from Jordan Hart. Akron is now in danger of surrendering the No. 1 ranking which it has held since the preseason rankings.
Wake Forest took a small step towards stability with a 4-3 upset over No. 18 Boston College in a game that saw seven goals scored in the second half. Andy Lubahn netted a hat trick for the Deacons after an own goal put Wake Forest down just after the restart. Boston College drop to 1-2-4 in conference play while Wake Forest improve to 4-2-1 in the ACC but will most likely need to win the ACC tournament to sneak into the postseason.
A first-half strike from freshman standout Stephen Baker gave No. 14 Pennsylvania a 1-0 victory over No. 13 Brown in a crucial Ivy League matchup. Ben Berg kept his eighth shutout of the season as the Quakers remain perfect in conference play.
