SBI Stoppage Time: Recapping San Jose’s win vs. New York

  1. That’s the fun part about playoffs. Soccer uses them in World Cup, Euro, Gold, and Champions League / Europa league. Big whoop. Upsets are part of the fun. Besides, RSL showed this year that their run last year was no joke.

  2. Excellent breakdown, gentlemen. I was at the game last night and it was real heartbreaker for Red Bulls fans. But you nailed it in terms of finishing – between the two games we should’ve had 5-6 goals. But just wait till next year!

  3. There’s nothing wrong with 8 seeds winning it 2 years in a row, I just wish the play-offs demanded more from their cinderellas. One good game and San Jose is a game away from the finals? I’d like a longer, more difficult post-season that REALLY made the cinderellas earn it.

  4. I was at the game and it was an emotional roller coaster. My biggest complaint as a Red Bulls fan is how long Backe waited to introduce subs. They were creating chances througout the game and I know he had an eye on extra-time but I think you need to have a bit more killer instinct. When it was 1-1 aggregate at the 60th minute would have been a perfect time to introduce some fresh legs and try to go for the win. Down 3-2 on aggregate in the 84th was way to late.

  5. If San Jose wins the championship I’ll be certain that there’s something dreadfully wrong with this playoff structure. If two 8th place teams can win the championship two years in the row then something is certainly wrong. I’m not a Galaxy fan but we all know the real champion is the one who wins the supporter’s shield anyway.

  6. Remember the call-up Altidore shouts. On the verge of them for Agudelo. I don’t care what anyone says about finishing I didn’t think Agudelo played poorly at all. Other than a weaker shot to the far post, he linked up well, moved well, and showed great composure and solid skill in the box. I mean who was the last US MNT forward (in any game any league) you say operate like that in the box.

Agudelo is looking like top 3 forward in the entire USA pool (not counting LD or Duece). Without Davies now, perhaps the best. I’d say top 3 are Agudelo, Altidore and Buddle.

Ream looked good minus the Convey turn. I hope we get Mwanga and Najar.

Gold Cup roster will be interesting!
