Chivas USA end coaching search, appoints Fraser as Head Coach

The long head coaching search has come to an end for Chivas USA.

The Rojiblancos hired former Real Salt Lake assistant Robin Fraser as the club's latest head coach on Tuesday. Fraser served as the assistant under Jason Kreis since 2007 and spent two years as the head of Real Salt Lake's vaunted academy program. During his time with RSL, Fraser earned accolades as one of the top assistants in MLS and a future prospect for an MLS head coaching position. Fraser will be unveiled to the Los Angeles media in a press conference on Wednesday.

The former MLS All-Star defender replaces former head coach Martin Vasquez, who was released by Chivas USA back in late October. Chivas USA finished the 2010 season mired in last place in the Western Conference, missing the playoffs for the first time in five years.

Fraser is the sixth head coach in the club's seven year history.

Best wishes to the other team of ’05, hope Fraser does you well. He’ll surely be missed out here in the snow.

Simon Borg at mlssoccer.com wrote an article stating that Freddy Adu would be a good fit in Philadelphia, but that’s all. Nothing to suggest that it will actually happen.

  • Smith

He didn’t actually join Philly. He’s living on the streets of Philly after his last failed European adventure.

  • Smith

Uh-oh. Someone is goinbg to get mad at you for questioning the genius of Juan Carlos Osorio.

    Who is Freddy Adu?

But seriously folks, when I think of all the times I was trashed here for saying Freddy Adu was never going to make it anywhere, and for saying that he had developed and become as good as he was ever going to get, this really makes me laugh. He’s still young! He’s still developing! You’re a hater!

Yes, I was just so ridiculous. Next he will be trying out with recreational leagues.

A very sad story. I hope he can at least make it in some capacity with an MLS team because he has hit rock bottom. I just hope he has finally realized that he is NOT the next Pele and never will be. His ego seems to have done major harm to his career.

Listen, I am always one of the first to bash the Freddy/USMNT talk but lets give the kid a chance to makeup for his mistakes. He surrounded himself with people telling him great he was, is, and going to be. Remember, he was 14, on MTV, and a celebrity before he could even get a drivers permit. Soccer people knew what he was going to be. That’s why DC United sent the boy wonder away.

With that being said, hopefully he can come back to the MLS, maybe find himself, become 10% of the player people thought he would become and have a decent second half of his career.

    Good luck Freddy!!!
