Clark sidelined four weeks after fracturing cheekbone

American midfielder Ricardo Clark finally broke through in recent weeks at German club Eintracht Frankfurt, earning quality minutes and impressing at multiple positions.

Clark's renaissance has been on hold after suffering a fractured cheekbone during a training session on Friday. He is set to have surgery on the injury on Monday and is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks.

The injury rules Clark out of the U.S. national team's upcoming friendly vs. Egypt. He has not played for the national team since being replaced as a first-half substitute in the United States World Cup loss to Ghana last June.

  1. Gil was probably right. The revolution is internal and the protesting/rioting is just an expression of that revolution. People have been revolting in Egypt/Iran/Zimbabwe/(Insert Dictator lead country.

  2. “‘he just should not have been playing in the game against Ghana.’

    What makes you say that?”

Maybe it’s that his awful turnover caused Ghana’s first goal, and he played so poorly he was subbed off in the 31st minute?

  3. well the minority is growing – I agree with you. I think he will play well at CB for Frankfurt provided he stays healthy. I’m 100% sure he will get some runs out with the national team at CB if what I stated above happens.

  4. This just sucks for Clark and I wish him a speedy recovery. I’m in the minority, but I think he can develop into a serviceable CB – and I believe the position change will allow for a little more of his nastiness to play out without the consequences (CBs can get away with more than a mid).

  5. The Egyptian government is collapsing. I guess, it’s not really collapsing, it seems to have disappeared altogether. Modern revolutions get televised, turn your TV on man. Hopefully nothing gets extremely violent, but if a new government cannot be agreed and installed then I don’t see the match going forward at all. And when has it taken 10 days to install a new government? Yea…not gonna happen in Egypt either.

The US Dept of State is also telling US citizens to not travel to Egypt and if you’re in Egypt then you shouldn’t travel inside Egypt. All signs are bad for the US-Egypt friendly happening in Egypt. It could be re-located to the southern US. Yea, give it to Houston or LA!

  8. It’s the Ives curse. He wrote about Lichaj and then he promptly got benched. Now Ricardo has a fractured cheekbone. I guess Spector should watch his back.

  9. I read that Clark would be in the hospital for two weeks–that’s not just a *broken* cheekbone, that’s a *shattered* cheekbone. Sounds like a knee or a full-speed dome-to-the-cheek.

  10. No comments from either Federation, I can’t imagine there will be if the situation doesn’t improve dramatically.

Hope they just relocate it rather than cancel it. We’re desperate for something like this – hostile ground, away, against good opposition players.

  11. Perhaps knocked face to head on a set piece? Bundesliga practices are intense and Clark’s obviously gettin into it.

Long term, better a cheekbone than a knee I suppose.
