SBI Live Q&A (Jan. 25th Edition)

Good afternoon folks. It's time for an SBI Live Q&A.

Want to talk about USA-Chile? The upcoming MLS season? European soccer? if you want to discuss it, we can do so over the next few hours.

Send your questions my way.

Let's get started (Q&A is after the jump):

  1. As with almost everything, it isn’t black and white. I like Bradley Jr and I think that him in the lineup is probably the smartest choice 90% of the time.

However, surrounding USMNT midfielders are closing the gap fast and the emerging possible combinations available make it less so clear cut than in June 10′.

In my opinion all logical combinations should be tried. And MB isn’t in all logical combinations.

The problem we have with Bradley Sr is that he has not and doesnt appear ready to try anything but MB in the lineup.

  2. “Michael Bradley should start and probably will start all three friendlies. That is unless Bob Bradley splits up squads for Argentina and Paraguay.”

“DO you really start Bradley if we are playing a 4-4-2 and Jones & Holden are healthy? I’m not so sure he deserves it over those two….furthermore I’d consider his deserving a toss up between himself and EDU.”

That depends on what BB sees as the purpose of these friendlies?

Does he think we should treat them as if they are knockout games in the World Cup and send out are very best lineup?

Or does he use them to get a better idea of potential lineups, players and formations for the Gold Cup?

Given the USMNT stil has a lot of questions to be answered I believe BB will field a strong but experimental lineup. In which case “deserving” doesn’t really enter into it.

Besides the players who should be playing in the first string aren’t the ones who are having the best club seasons; it should be the ones who play the best together for the USMNT.

  3. I know it’s hard for Michael Bradley to take on too much of a leadership role right now because of his age and the father-son dynamic, but I can’t help but thinking that once Bob is done coaching the Nats, Michael Bradley has some Steve Yzerman/Mark Messier-type captain potential. He’s already got the scowl and the intensity.

I’m neither a MB fan nor a MB hater, but as a USMNT fan, it would be great to see. Maybe I’m hoping for too much…

  4. “So what does Michael Bradley have to do to get people to stop screaming nepotism every time they look at his starting record for the NT? Change his name and face? In my opinion, he’s earned his position.

Maybe if he scored a few goals against Mexico, or became a regular starter in a top league, or scored in a World Cup. Something tangible that could show people he can actually play.”

    Hahaha, that was funny Ives…

Bradley haters are not the smartest bunch, I’m guessing most of them will miss your subtle snark and think you’re agreeing with them.

  6. What does Benny Feilhaber need to do to be in the World Cup picture in 3.5 years?

Playing regularly in a top league.

Prediction: even that will not be enough by the next World Cup. That’s basically the standard now aside from a handful of players, in 3.5 years there will be multiple Americans having successful careers in top leagues who will not make the World Cup squad.
And unfortunately for Feilhaber he will probably be one of them.

  7. I am happy to see the MLS getting International credibility

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI has warned Robbie Keane that he could lose his place in the Ireland team if he doesn’t find a new club before the close of the transfer window.

The Ireland manager says he will consider other options for March’s Euro 2012 qualifier with Macedonia if his skipper stays at Spurs and is short of match practice.

He indicated that he expects the 30-year-old to move clubs in the next seven days and added that he told the Dubliner that a move to Major League Soccer in America or a step down to the Championship would be preferable to his current situation.
