Which other American abroad would you like to see loaned or transferred?

With the European transfer window shut for the winter, a number of Americans are settling in to their new clubs, having just been loaned or transferred elsewhere. For a few others, though, their club situation is anything but secure.

Americans Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Freddy Adu, Oguchi Onyewu, Eddie Johnson, Robbie Findley, Edson Buddle and Jermaine Jones have all made recent club changes during this last transfer period.

Which other Americans could use a move? Here's a rundown of those who would benefit from a club change and might still get that chance in the coming weeks:

Take Eric Lichaj, for example, who enjoyed his first taste of first-team action with Aston Villa early in the season only to find himself in manager Gerard Houllier's notorious doghouse. He hasn't played since the end of December and has seen the club bring in an U-21 English international at his position.

Benny Feilhaber has been rumored to be leaving AGF Aarhus since the team was demoted from the Danish Superliga at the end of last season, but despite links to clubs in Europe, Mexico and Brazil, he has stayed put.

Then there's a player like Celtic goalkeeper Dom Cervi, who has recently been in the U.S. national team picture despite not playing a single club minute this season. Fortunately for players in his position, loans are still possible even with the transfer window closed, and players can be transferred to other countries whose windows are still open.

  1. I remember the first time, I think it was 2007,I saw MB and Benny together in the center of midfield and thought they would be the US central midfield pair for a long time.

Then Benny kind of lost it at Hamburg and then Derby. He’s never really been the same since.

As for Torres, fans get all upset with the US midfield because so many times we see them lose posession, usually needlessly, and Torres is so good at taking care of the ball. The problem with him is that seems to be where it ends. He might connect on his passes but they are rarely dangerous ones.

I remember Slaven Bilic saying his team always feared Beckham even now because, whatever his numerous faults were, he always seemed to come up with something dangerous, a nasty free kick, a killer cross, whatever. I don’t think US opponents see Torres that way. I don’t think he makes any opponent nervous.

  2. I would love to see the Red Bulls bring in Eric Lichaj or Gale Agbossoumonde as either of them would deffently be a starter and better them selves with the team.

  3. Thats a very good point, and I didn’t realize that Walker was just on loan.

That being said, I still think Lichaj needs playing time right now. I realize there are no guarantees, but the cream always rises to the top in football. If he is good enough he will make it back.

Either way I think he has a real bright future ahead of him.

  4. I agree. For me, Benny and Torres are similar. Both have a sublime touch (remember Bennys brilliant pass that started CDs clincher vs Spain in the Confed Cup?) and are smart. The problem is that both can’t seem to continue this for 90 mins and both are atrocious on tracking back for defensive help…These are the reasons why Stu Holden has pulled so far ahead of both of them on the NT pecking order.

  5. If you were a Championship or League One club (that actually wants Grella), why would you pay a transfer fee for him when you can just wait until the summer to get him on a free? Grella isn’t really a “I need to have him now” type player
