First blood to the Timbers.
The first match of the Cascadia Summit featured the Seattle Sounders facing the Portland Timbers and it was the visiting Timbers who struck first in what should be one of Major League Soccer's best rivalries.
Jorge Perlaza and Kenny Cooper scored the goals to help lift the Timbers to a 2-0 victory at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington.
The match was the first of the Cascadia Summit, a three-time, round-robin tournament featuring the Sounders, Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps. The match was also the first meeting between the long-time rivals as MLS opponents.
The Timbers take on the Whitecaps today, with Seattle returning to action Sunday against Vancouver.
