FC Dallas Homegrown Players Ruben Luna and Bryan Leyva each scored in the second half to lead FCD over Real Salt Lake, 2-0, in the Reserve League opener for both teams on Tuesday.

Luna converted a penalty kick seven minutes into the second half, and Leyva converted a volley from distance 11 minutes later to double FC Dallas' lead.

Over the weekend in New England in other Reserve League action, D.C. United's reserves improved to 2-0 with a 4-1 victory over the Revolution. Rookie forward Blake Brettschneider scored twice and assisted on another goal, and Designated Player Branko Boskovic added a goal and an assist in the rout. New England scored a first-minute goal through Ilija Stolica, but the Revolution couldn't beat Bill Hamid after that.

The next scheduled Reserve League match is the April 3 tilt between San Jose and Seattle.

What do you think about these results? Do you see Luna and/or Leyva helping the FCD first team this season? Impressed at Brettschneider's strike rate in preseason and reserve matches?

  1. Luna will definitely have an impact this year for Dallas. Leyva is probably another year away from making an impact although that could change with a few injuries.

  2. @ Raff,

I was at the game. RSL dominated play, especially in the first half and even in the second half. The goals came against the run of play (the penalty call was questionable). If I had to pick which reserve team I would want for my backups, there was no doubt that RSL had much better quality overall. I was actually pretty disappointed with Dallas’ play, although I thought their forwards were good with the limited opportunities presented to them.

  3. For the DC game they might have broke a reserve league record for highest paid team ever on the field if Charlie Davies came off the bench, considering Boskovic played and Fred came off the bench.

  4. I think it’s only a matter of time until Boskovic is fit and starts getting minutes with the first team. They’re not paying him $500K+ to dominate the reserve league.
