The San Jose Earthquakes were hit by the injury bug when it was announced that forward Steven Lenhart would require knee surgery.

The surgery will rule the forward out for the Earthquakes opener against Real Salt Lake. Lenhart will miss 2 to 4 weeks. The forward picked up the injury during the team's training stint in England and an MRI earlier this week revealed that the forward would require surgery.

Lenhart had been instrumental during the preseason for the Earthquakes since being picked up from the Columbus Crew for San Jose's first round draft pick. It is believed that Lenhart's rise will eventually push Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski to the center of midfield.

  1. Its a shame about Lenhart, but the Quakes have actually got some useful depth this year. New signing Ellis McLoughlin made the steal and pass to Johnson for the penalty call, Rafael Baca looked right at home for more than a half-hour as an attacking CM, and Busch, Wondo, and Gjertsen have picked up right where they left off.

oh, and Bobby Convey set up the game winner by another trialist Matt Luzunaris in today’s reserve match as well. i just love opening day optimism!

I know, I know, they have to find the right situation and place, but come on
