In a week when there were once again a handful of worthy contenders, Real Salt Lake playmaker Javier Morales emerged as the clear-cut choice to win this week's SBI MLS Player of the Week.

Morales edged out San Jose's Chris Wondolowski and Toronto FC's Javier Martina and New England's Shalrie Joseph for the award after his two-goal performance helped Real Salt Lake dismantle the Los Angeles Galaxy 4-1.

Who do you think deserved MLS Player of the Week this week? Did Morales get your vote, or would you have chosen someone different?

  1. Beckerman’s hair draws attention away from the fact that Javi’s hair is a borderline mullet 🙂

I don’t care what their hairstyles are tho so long as they keep playing the way they are.

  2. As a huge RSL fan I wouldn’t of had a problem if Tally Hall was named player of the week. He made some great saves and Pappa’s goal was sick.

  3. I agree, his goal was absolutely sick. My buddy turned to me right after he scored and said, “I’m here and I just saw that right in front of my own eyes, yet I still don’t believe that just happened.” He also picked up an assist and seemed to be almost everywhere.

  4. Agreed. From the front row of Rio Tinto, Paulo put on one heck of a show. Dude has some mad foot skills. The GALs didn’t know what to do with him as he danced around them with the ball strung to his boot. Watch replays of him or the game if you get a chance.

Espy and Paulo as a strike force may be to “lively” for MLS defenders in general. Both are great with the ball and completely unpredictable.

  5. Can’t argue w/ Morales, but el guanaco is right, Paulo Jr had a dream debut. He wouldn’t have been out of place as the selection either.

  6. morales is a great choice. in addition to 2 goals and an assist, he dominated the midfield completely. but i think morales’s teammate paulo jr. is worth a mention. in his first MLS start the youngster tallied a goal, an assist, drew a PK (which morales converted) and terrorized the galaxy backline all night. he was dangerous every time he touched the ball. RSL fans are looking forward to big things from this young gun…
