Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

Like many of the Championship and League One teams, Derby County has two games in a span of three days this weekend, meaning Conor Doyle is likely to get a chance to score his first goal at the club level.

The U.S. U-20 national team striker has not played for Derby County since assisting in the March 12 win against Swansea City, but that should change as Derby faces Burnley on Saturday and Norwich City (and American centerback Zak Whitbread) on Monday. With Doyle likely to see minutes in at least one of the games, he could make a case for more playing time with a strong outing or a goal.

Another intriguing match on tap will be when red-hot Everton and Tim Howard battle with the American goalkeeper's former club, Manchester United. Howard and Everton have not lost in their last seven league games, but that streak will be put to the test as the Toffees visit Old Trafford on Saturday.

  1. Yea, silly move. Why bring in a young player on loan if you’re not going to play him? Hope Bradley can find a good home next year.

  2. I am glad to hear that he played decently. I know he takes a lot of grief on these boards, but he must be doing something right. Nottingham is in the midst of trying to get into the promotion playoffs and for the manager to bring him in with the match tied shows that he must be working hard and performing in training.

  3. Just watched the Nottingham Forest-Leicester game, and Findley looked bright in his fourteen-minute cameo. Very fast, as you would expect. His first touch was a shot (not on goal, but he did well just to get a shot off, and probably should have earned a corner). He had a nice cut back in the 90th minute, and only had grass between himself and the goal, but the defender cynically dragged him down, earning a yellow.

  4. Just read an article and it does appear that Findley is available and should make his debut in one of the two weekend games.

  5. We’ve (that includes me) been crapping ourselves over Connor Doyle for a year now and he’s never scored at the club level?

    Wow.
