Revolution gets first jersey sponsor

NE_Primary_COL

It's been a landmark week for the New England Revolution.

Just days after having U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber fall to them in the allocation order, the Revs announced a partnership with United Healthcare that will yield the first jersey sponsor in team history.

Financial details of the partnership were not released, and there will be a charitable aspect of the deal as well, as the Revolution and United Healthcare have teamed to raise awareness for chronic diseases among children, most notably obesity and diabetes.

New England will debut its new jerseys in Saturday's match against Sporting Kansas City at Gillette Stadium.

What do you think about the Revolution's partnership and week as a whole? Impressed by the steps the team is taking?

  1. Gillette is the worst stadium because nobody goes. It’s so much better than the old Foxboro Stadium, it’s not even funny, but they drew more fans when they were in the old place. If they had a legit 20,000 in there, it would be fine, but because all the “real futbol fans” tell everybody that Gillette sucks and nobody should go, their prophesy becomes self fulfilling.

And I love these people who say that all the team needs is some owners who care, as if to imply that if they had owners who cared, then they’d have a stadium in the city. Well I guess the Pats and Sox don’t have owners who care about them, because they didn’t get new stadiums built in the city either when they tried to do so. There’s a stupid political conversation in this article already, but one thing everybody can agree on regarding Massachusetts politics, subsidizing or even just helping facilitate new sports stadiums is not something that local pols are big on.

  2. I think Revs fans are pretty happy with Kraft right now… they’ve signed several quality players and just got a jersey sponsor

  3. The Revs defense is among the best in the league. They just signed a striker who scored 22 goals in the Danish league last year. The only thing right about your comment is the stadium.. which is easier said than done.

  4. the revs have the same problem as FCD, location of the stadium. The fans are there in Boston, but the team doesn’t play in Boston

  5. Poor Benny has to run around on fake grass until he blows his knee because of it. His national team status just went the way of Taylor Twellman.

  6. Good point. This is their first front-of-the-shirt major sponsor. But in the past they’ve had Bic, Pepsi, and Sierra Mist on the back of the jersey and on the sleeve.

  7. Didn’t the Revs used to have Bic as a jersey sponsor? I know sponsorship was a little different in the early years, but is this really the first sponsor they had?

  8. Rev fans I’m so disappointed in you. I fully expected to click on the comment link and see Kraft bashing. Your team is disappointing and so now are the fans.

Learn you role, and just do it.

  10. It’s not socialized medicine as it is NOT provided by the state. In Massachusetts we purchase heath care through private companies. The law makes it manditory.

And Gillette isn’t the worse staduim in MLS. It’s not ideal for the Revs but RFK is worse.

  11. porous defense???
10 teams have given up more or the same amount of goals as NE has this yr with 5 of those teams having played less games then NE so far. im no supporter of the Revs, as a matter of fact i live in MA and only travel to see the opposition, but to call their D porous is a bit off the mark my man.

  12. i’m no fox news viewer. i’m not a glen beck watching zombie. i didn’t even say whether or not i supported socialized health care so leave your assumptions off the net. there is a state health care plan OFFERED to all mass citizens. fact.

  13. In case you didn’t see the url on this site is not msnbc.com. Let’s keep the politics out of it. The Revs suck.

  14. you’re all right. all i’m saying is that there is a health care plan provided to every citizen in Massachusetts provided by the state. and when i said socialized health care, i meant it in a good way! socialism is great. idk why so many people hate it…

but enough with politics for this website. even though the revs got feilhaber and a shirt sponsor, they’re still gonna suck and play in the worst stadium in MLS.

  15. Acquiring Feilhaber and a jersey sponsor were certainly positive moves for the Revs, but they still have many areas to address. Their defense is porous, and they have yet to find a capable striker to fill Twellman’s shoes. Ultimately, the New England Revolution will only move forward as a franchise once they have a soccer-specific stadium in the Boston metropolitan area.

  16. I don’t quite understand the philanthropic partnership aspect. Correct me if I’m wrong but UnitedHealthCare is a private company and they are the ones listed on the shirt, as seen in the press conference video.

Regardless, it looks kind of lame just having a lot of letters smashed together across the chest.

  17. I was hoping that MLS actively dropping pursuit of the suburban soccer mom/kid demographic, and instead focusing on the 18-34 male demographic, would open the door for something like a Revs/Sam Adams partnership.

  18. Ironic that NE sports the “sponsor” for the first time against a club that has a philanthropic partnership in place for stadium naming rights.

  19. Great about the sponsor, now all New England needs are fans, because I am pretty sure no one in Boston knows who they are. Can anyone else think of a less relevant MLS team?

  22. I don’t tend to dabble into politics on here but, well said. I have free healthcare in multiple countries. It works. I use the VA in the States and my private doctor here in Italy. I don’t get any less care than anyone else.

  23. 1.) there is NO socialized health care in Mass. and I live in ct I go to Worcester for anything instead of f upped system in ct. get facts straight and do a little homework: what they have done in mass leads the nation in customer satisfaction and since its implementation making it mandatory having health care costs have go down because the hospitals aren’t eating all the bills of the uninsured.

2.) this country needs to take a deep look at itself: totally unrestricted free market philosophy – is the reason why the economy is where it is today. socialism should stop being thrown around as dirty word (a little bit is not bad thing) as far as all tea baggers, u bunch of miss led dumb bucks- before Mass. was a state it was and still is the COMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS

  24. “Consistent persistence.” What?? George Bernard Shaw said that England and America are two countries separated by a common language. I never feel that so much as when I hear Adrian Healey and Harkes call games together.

  25. are you gonna personally guarantee a return on his investment in constructing the stadium from your billions of dollars of stockpiled funds?

  26. Guarantee that poster #1 Seth is a Fox News viewer. He heard that Massachusetts has “socialized health care” and he’s not interested in actually educating himself. Mark F you made a good effort, but it’s probably a lost cause.

Happy to see the Revs get a jersey sponsor. Can someone remind Mr. Kraft that he still gets his Gillette money regardless of whether the Revs play in Foxboro. If they build a stadium in Boston proper he gets an additional stadium for another nice naming rights contract… 😉

  27. Lol. Masscare? Ever heard of it. Its why republicans dislike mitt romney. I’m not saying it’s good or bad I just thought it was funny that a state with a progressive healthcare policy had a team with a private healthcare company on their shirt.

It’s like saying it’s funny that the new York team plays in jersey and had a sponsor from Austria! Not arguing anything, just stating facts I find funny.

  28. Well, it’s not exactly socialized, it’s just required. Most people have private insurance.
As for the Revs, after this week, I’ll believe in almost anything…but I’ll settle for some good soccer, and the playoffs, and okay, finally winning the Cup. That’s how much of a shock it’s been.

  29. I am not sure if this has a political tinge to it but that is a stupid comment. There is no Massachusetts state healthcare company. They have private insurance companies in Mass including United. Get a clue and leave politics off this board.
