  1. TFC is still selling out ( although there are always empty seats )

Seattle is still strong after 2+ seasons of not being able to find a finisher.

Sorry you are so bitter towards full stadiums. I hope you find happiness with whoever you root for.

ps. please show me one example of annoying Seattle fans.

  2. TC is a joke. Their fans were so cocky & full of “proper footy culture” when they joined the league. No, they are in their 3rd or 4th rebuilding plan and fans are starting to see what it feels like once the initial euphoria passes. I hope the same thing hapens to those annoying Seattle fans.

  3. Bro, you don’t have to feel sympathy for him.

You know that once entertainers get a certain level are always going to make more than the local elementary teacher or the the local pediatric clinic assistant. That’s just the reality of the market place.

Star in a major release movie–even a bad one–you’re usually going to get paid. Save some lives treatuing the sick on the front lines when a plague breaks out…

All he wants is his market value. I’m not a TFC fan and I think the “write the check goal celebration was tacky” but in the end, it’s a business.

If he doesn’t get the compensation that he wanted then the PR hit that he took with his some countrymen, especially some of the TFC fans–it might not end up being worth it in the long run.

We’ll see how things play out.

  4. It is generally a short career (10 years or less), so he needs to get what the market will bear in that time period and save and invest, because his next job (coach? insurance salesman) is going to likely pay far less.

  5. I have felt the same way! Saw him play live against FC Dallas 96 … instant fan .. hence the “2 stepper” tagline.

  6. That’s less than the league minimum in Major League Baseball, for a guy who is one of the better players in MLS. Obviously MLS is not MLB in terms of salaries but it doesn’t have to be for your point, so go complain about how Jose Bautista doesn’t need millions of dollars to survive in Toronto.

  7. The guy is one of the best players MLS has ever had. It is an honor to have him on my MLS team (Houston Dynamo). So what if he wants to get paid? He earned it. Truly a special player.

I haven’t had true belief in the Dynamo since he left. Once he left everything fell apart. Is it a coincidence we won our last championship with him? I think not.

  8. I used to like DeRo but agree he is a me-first, team-second player. He dogged it his last year in Houston, basically demanding a trade to his hometown club. And we all saw how that worked out. Maybe now that he’s finally getting his money, he’ll tear it up….?

  9. DeRo is annoying. His problems at TFC were all related to previous management and verbal “promises” that were made to him.

People can talk bad about TFC but what they did was 100% correct. No player is bigger than the club, even if you are the hometown captain.

  10. I was trying to figure the accent out too. 🙂

I like the guy’s honesty and I hope he does well. I hope he can help the team play better.

  11. Yeah, it’s really difficult to survive in Toronto on +$400,000/year.

It’s really hard to feel sympathy for someone who basically an entertainer making a generous six-figure salary when people who perform services that are truly valuable to society are struggling to keep their jobs.

  13. Sounds llike he didn’t want to leave, but he also wanted to get paid. Hence he had to leave. Plus the organization is a joke.

  14. MLSE is one of the worst sports organizations in North America, Just ask a Leafs and Raptors fan. DeRo left a ship that was going nowhere. Good for him.

  15. This guy lied to the tfc fans saying that he didn’t want to leave. I hope the New York fans can put up with all your BS. Good Luck MeRo.
