What do you think of the squads? Which of the teams besides USA and Mexico do you see having a chance at the title? Which roster do you see being capable of pulling off some surprises?

  1. I guess Mexico have a better team than others because
the roster is a mix of young and experienced and the United States has no renewal of his players, always
are the same, there is no real growth, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Cherundolo, Jones, Donovan, Bornstein, Howard are excellent players but they are too old, we need a younger team.

  2. Despite all the oohing and aahing over the Mexico squad, U.S. still seems to be the favorite here. Chicharito has been great this season, but one must remember, he won’t be playing in a Manchester United shirt alongside some of the better players in the world. Yes, Mexico has good talent at some positions, but I think people here tend to devalue the Landons, Dempseys, Cherundolos, Howards, Jermaine Joneses etc and pump up Mexico’s weapons as if they are can’t-miss. It will be a tough fight against our neighbors to the South, but we shouldn’t be conceding to them or anything close to it.

  3. I was thinking the exact same thing. He came to FC Dallas as a possible US national team player, but due to injuries never made it. I guess it is not a huge loss but for someone who represented the US all the way through his youth and early professional days it is a suprise.

  4. They have the skill for sure, but they play a style that falls apart when pressure is applied. They’re always a team that will score some pretty goals, but they shouldn’t be a problem for the traditional hex powers (US, Mex, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, and Panama)

  5. Kavin Bryan broke his fibula this month while playing in Vietnam according to Wikipedia. Tough to see him representing Jamaica on one leg.

  6. Besides the US and Mexico, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, Canada, Cost Rica, and Honduras, all have good rosters.

Don’t be surprised if Guadeloupe does work .

  8. How can you not be in favor of Wondo? He lead the MLS in scoring last year and is in 3rd place this year. He is the only US forward scoring with regularity over the last year (Dempsey and Donavon are midfielders)

The other 3 are role-playing subs, also Sasha and JB are versatile so can cover in various places in case of injury. Davies (injury), Chandler (Hamburg’s reluctance), Bedoya (tactical), Torres(not that good, he plays less than 90 for Pachuca, and never seems to fit in) were left off for good reason.

  9. I don’t know if SBI has put out these lists in before prior Gold Cups, but I gotta say I love this. How telling to see where all these squads are playing club wise. For certain it changes the way I look at potential match ups.

  10. Are you being sarcastic? I can’t tell. If you’re not, I didn’t realize that the Panamanian, Colombian, and Venezuelan leagues were that hot…

  11. I love how one guy said that Mexico doesnt have a good squad. They have one of the starting strikers from Manchester United, one of the best young defenders in in Europe (Hector Moreno).

I think the USA can win if they stay healthy because our bench is not deep enough. At least we have guys that are good at riding the bench.

Donovan and Dempsey will have to carry the offense.

There is no way Mexico will lose this one, as much as it pains me. I hope US performs HORRIBLE just to get Bradley fired once and for all, like Rongen…

  13. I’m impressed by the amount of players on teams in Europe. This region is quickly gaining credibility overseas. Should be a fun tournament.

  14. Mexico will win, because USA has an doofis for a coach, i’d rather have Gump then Bradley, at least he can see right from wrong.

  15. Please remember that Bob Bradley has been mentored by Bruce Arena. Loyalty is a valued trait to both of them.

  17. Im gonna call it Mexico Wins Again.

Bradley again proves he only likes playing with players he knows instead of taking a risk and bringing in some exciting players chandler and bunbury should have been locks

  18. First off the Gold Cup is played too often. I am sure you have heard people say that this is the important Gold Cup since it is tied to the Confed Cup in 2013.

This is a cup that should be played every four years and not every 2 years. Have it every 4 years and have it in the same years as the Euros. That would make the Gold Cup far more attractive as a TV property and more meaningful to almost everybody.

The more rare something becomes the more people want it.

  19. oohhhhhh you called me an idiot for saying the truth. the gold cup is nothing but a cheap cup. Copa america > than the cheap cup.

  20. They are not advertising the Gold Cup well enough AT ALL on TV. It’s really sad, ESPN should’ve picked it up and shown at least every single USA match. This is the biggest deal next to the World Cup for us!

  21. chicharito is the only big name player in the gold cup. i could see why santa chuck blazer wanted him in the gold and not in copa america so he could make his fake gold cup more “attractive”.

  22. biggest problem is the inconsistent way bob picks a team, blames not getting games for some people but then selects others who haven’t got games regularly
