Toronto FC's season just went from bad to worse.

Days after a record-setting 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Union, the club announced that starting centerback Adrian Cann tore his ACL in training and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Cann, a 30-year-old Canadian international, was locked in a contract dispute with the club earlier in the season but came around and started 12 games this season. In a statement released by the team, manager Aron Winter singled out Nana Attakora, a player who had been reportedly been frozen out by the club for contract reasons as well, as a candidate to replace Cann in central defense.

Cann had been voted the team MVP last season for Toronto, which is currently 2-5-6 and has a league-worst -10 goal differential.

  1. He wasn’t even called up by Canada for the Gold Cup. Shame, because if he was he wouldn’t have been at TFC training yesterday to get his ACL torn
