The Chicago Fire dominated the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps in every category except the scoreline as the two teams battled to a scoreless draw at Toyota Park.
Chicago began the game with a flurry of chances that went begging. Diego Chaves couldn't get a hold of a low cross and was taken down inside the box but referee Andrew Chapin waved play on. The Fire wasted another golden opportunity just after the half hour mark when Dominic Oduro found himself in a good position after a nifty cutback of Greg Janicki, but his shot sailed over the bar.
Jay Nolly kept the score deadlocked with a good save of Marco Pappa's low shot in the 36th minute and Chavez saw his shot come back off the post in the 44th minute. Chicago ended the first half with 69 percent of possession.
The second half saw far fewer scoring chances as both teams upped the physicality. Four yellow cards were issued but neither team offered much more than a few speculative shots from range. The exception was when Vancouver's Eric Hassli found himself alone in front of goal but he failed to pull the trigger and John Conway smothered the loose ball.

Agreed, not sure what Wild Mushroom is thinking. Albeit in a 0-0 draw its hard to brag about our good goal scoring, getting goals hasn’t been an issue. We are missing golden opportunities almost every game, so we should have even more goals than we do know. At least we are creating good opportunities every game, which is more than I can say for last year’s offensive output.
If the Vancouver game gets played 10 times in a row, we should score in 8 or 9 of those contests. It was one of those weird nights where we couldn’t break through, despite absolutely dominating in the possession and passing departments.
Nice support there. I make the 3 hour trip to Chicago just to watch a team. I’ll gladly take the team in Indy if you dont want them anymore…
Fire looked very good against Vancouver. We possessed and move the ball around. We had several opportunities, but failed to put them away.
Our offense isnt the issue this season. Chaves is tied for 2nd in goals this season, Pappa tied for 3rd. We score goals, yet we have mental lapses in the defense and find ourselves giving up poor goals.
Should we be surprised by the Fire’s lack of offense? The team has picked up were they left off last season, despite the changes. The poor offense is why I dumped my season tickets and am happy that I don’t waste any money on this crap team.
Not a bad idea. Or maybe just no points for a 0-0 draw.
Teams should lose a point in the standings for 0-0 draws.
It’s time for the DLC experiment to end. It’s time for Andrew to sell this team. It’s time to move forward and for us to forget these last two seasons and remember Tradition. Honor. Passion.
It’s better than losing.
