Henry could miss Dynamo match with knee injury

The injury bug has once again bitten Thierry Henry, and the red-hot forward could miss Saturday's match against the Houston Dynamo because of it.

New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe said Thursday that Henry picked up a knee injury in the club's 3-2 loss versus Chivas USA and is listed as day-to-day. Backe also said Henry's injury might prevent the former French international from traveling with the team to Houston on Friday.

The knee injury may not be severe, but it is just the latest knock Henry has picked up since joining New York last summer. If Henry misses this weekend's match, Juan Agudelo is likely to start in his place.

What do you think of Henry's latest injury? Do you see him making it through the season? Think Henry's absence will allow Agudelo to start this weekend?

Henry was relatively durable for most of his career. Why NOW is he made of glass? I couldn’t be happier with his form, but these stupid little injuries are starting to get annoying.

If I was getting paid $5.5 million to play a game I love I’d feel some obligation to play through a “nagging” little “knock” like this.

It’s times like this that remind me of when I finally began to appreciate Brian McBride and Taylor Twellman. Two guys who know what commitment means.

My buddy used to say this about Ljungberg too.

All of the sudden he is injured….last Saturday,

was there any mention of this until the day before he might not travel ?

I swear if New York signs robert pires I will cry and probally never root for them again. Its bad enough they have that name and only start 1 american please don’t give me a reason to hate you.

Not sure anyone else caught it but I think I saw when he “went down” and felt pain in his knee. There was absolutely zero contact with anyone and it was only after the ball went out of bounds. It looked more like he was just exhausted or simply frustrated with the service on that play.

Ironically, it was the same sequence in which Rodgers flew directly into the goal-post, of which, was followed by Rodgers getting back up and running to mark an outlet pass in the dying seconds of the game. Talk about a difference in will and toughness.

I don’t have the game on my DVR anymore but if anyone does and can verify it, I believe thats when it happened seconds before the game ended.

Funny enough, I turned to a friend watching the game and jokingly said “Oh. Henry’s grabbing his leg….he’s out 2-3 weeks now.”

Turns out it may have been less a joke and more reality.

  • Aguinaga

Was there Sunday and some him limping around post game, not sure when or how it happenened during. On scale of 1-10, was probably a 5 in severity limp. I’m fine with him resting, Agudelo getting the nod (he’ll be gone in a bit anyway, get him some PT) with CH coming in off the bench. Let them be over cautious with the knee now, we’ll need him more come June. No way to replace TH14, but not like we’ve got a slouch replacing him. +1 in the I want to see what Agudelo can do with Rodgers group.

when you’re taylor twellman and make $60K a year, you’re easily replaceable and thus need to keep your spot. When you’re Henry or Donovan, you can take the time to get healthy. Remember when everyone was bitching about Henry’s playing early in the season? Yeah, he was nursing a knock, then he got healthy and started scoring goals. Just because you go out and play throug an injury doesn’t meant you’re helping your team, especially when you’ve got Agudelo on the bench

I wonder if this is strategic by Backe. Houston has by far the biggest and tallest players in the MLS. I have a feeling this will be a physical matchup and one that Henry would not relish. The reality of the MLS as opposed to a single table league is you just need to do well in your conference. So why risk your best player to injury on an away Western Conference game? I predict Houston 2 Red Bulls 1.

Kinda wanna see Rodgers-Agudelo, and you know they were gonna hold Titi out of some games this year. Rather have him miss some time now and be fresh and able to carry the team when we’re missing guys for the Gold Cup.

  • Martek

As a Dynamo fan, my reaction is something of a meh. Even if Henry misses, the backline will have its hands full with the speed of Richards and Agudelo. I still think this will be a 1-1 draw.

we all knew henry was gonna miss some games this season. at least we have agudelo of all people to fill in. it could be worse

  • Rex

Why do the DPs hate Houston? No DPs will sign here, or even play a single game here. It took Beckham 3 years to make it here. Now Henry doesnt want to come.

  • john

Cause it’s usually like 105 there, and who wants to play in that heat. haha. Seriously, how do you guys live there?

  • John H.

pretty well due to low cost of living and better economic stability than the majority of the country, plus everything is bigger in Texas and bigger is better;)!

  • Paul

I would love to see the numbers for Henry’s career on how many league games he missed each year. I know he’s older now, but has he always been injury-prone?

  • new york red balls

i knew i shouldn’t have put this porcelain doll on my fantasy team.

    +1 Patrick
We need him more in June than we do now.
This weekends a good opportunity to rest Henry,
    knock or no knock.

  • Sir Knox

More importantly you should do some research
on his career scoring record. Maybe you can tell us what
    all the fuss is about

  • Brit

Agreed, apart from one notable exception: On Saturday the stadium will be filled with Rafa Marquez fans, which I am not looking forward to. At all.
