Philadelphia Union midfielder Amobi Okugo will be out for at least the next three weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Chicago Fire over the weekend, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

Okugo suffered the injury in the opening minutes against the Fire and was replaced by Kyle Nakazawa, who figures to see the lion's share of Okugo's minutes while he is out.

Okugo, a U.S. U-20 midfielder in his second year in MLS, has started five games this season for Philadelphia.

Here are a few more stories from around the soccer world:

SEEDORF RE-SIGNS WITH AC MILAN

Those hoping to see Clarence Seedorf in Major League Soccer will have to wait at least another year.

The 35-year-old Dutch midfielder has extended his stay at AC Milan by signing a one-year contract that will keep him in Serie A through next summer.

Seedorf has been previously linked with a move to MLS and has shown past interest when answering inquiries about a move to the United States.

BLACKPOOL EXTENDS OFFER TO ADAM

Blackpool turned down offers for influential midfielder Charlie Adam this winter, and now that the club has been relegated to the League Championship, it's hoping he'll stay on to try and bring the club back to the Premier League.

The Tangerines extended a one-year contract offer to Adam and a handful of other players on Wednesday.

The club also parted ways with 11 players, including Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Kingson and veteran striker Marlon Harewood, a reported target of D.C. United last summer.

GREEN REPLACES STOCKDALE FOR ENGLAND

Brad Guzan isn't the only backup goalkeeper getting married during an international competition this summer.

Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale has been replaced on England's roster for its upcoming Euro 2012 competition by Robert Green because the June 4 match against Switzerland conflicts with his wedding.

Stockdale filled in admirably for Fulham while Mark Schwarzer was injured this season, but was the club's reserve keeper. Joe Hart and Scott Carson are the other goalkeepers on England's roster.

Do you think the Okugo injury is a big setback for the Union? Wish Seedorf would come to MLS? Do you see Adam staying at Blackpool? What do you think about goalkeepers scheduling weddings around the time of major competitions?

  1. Anyone who thinks Seedorf is not good enough for MLS should never coach any soccer team or player anywhere.

  2. I don’t recall Schwarzer being injured this year. Stockdale filled in while Schwarzer was playing in the Asian Cup, but unless I’m blanking on something Schwarzer didn’t miss any time due to injury.

  3. Me too, I’m sure it’s a last ditch effort thing from B’pool though, I’m sure they know he wants something bigger and has better offers on the table. But they can’t let him go without trying, right?

  4. Did you see him play this season? He still tears it up. The Dutch Giggs in terms of still playing strong at 35+

  5. perhaps he is a fan of the deceased american poet, e.e. cummings, and he only works in the lower case as an homage. (hmmmm, perhaps i am a cummings fan, as well.)

  6. Anyone, in contract negotiations, that has not mentioned MLS please get that corrected……

…..it is not that hard to have your agent spread a rumor.

Um, weddings > soccer game. And considering they will support their new family by working from AUG-MAY, getting married and taking a honeymoon in JUN-JUL sounds about right to me.
