Union-Galaxy headlines mid-week MLS action

The Philadelphia Union will look to keep its unbeaten home record intact tonight when the club plays host to the Los Angeles Galaxy at PPL Park.

The Union will look to erase the memory of a 1-0 loss to Portland last week, while the Galaxy will be trying to build on an impressive effort in a 1-1 draw against New York on Saturday.

A few familiar faces will be missing from tonight's proceedings. David Beckham was left home for rest, while Philly head coach Peter Nowak will miss the match to take part in a charity event in Poland.

Tonight's MLS schedule goes beyond LA-Philly. FC Dallas is back at Pizza Hut Park tonight to take on a Toronto FC side coming off an impressive win against Houston, while the San Jose Earthquakes come off a bye week to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps in a match-up of two of the worst teams in the league at the moment.

Here's a closer look at all three match-ups:

Philadelphia Union vs. Los Angeles Galaxy, 7:30pm

Philly has allowed just one goal at PPL Park all season and will have a good chance of shutting down a Galaxy side that will sorely miss David Beckham. Landon Donovan is in good form for LA, and could find some success on the left flank, but the Galaxy's best chance for offensive success will be on set pieces, where the Union has shown some vulnerability.

Offensively, the Union come off one of its worst matches. Expect Philly to attack more at home, but it won't be easy breaking down a tough LA back-line.

FC Dallas vs. Toronto FC, 9pm

The Dallas offense was bound to miss David Ferreira, and that was the case last week. This week, FCD takes on a Toronto squad that has very shaky defensively on the road. Fabian Castillo and Brek Shea need to punish TFC on the flanks, while Toronto will look to Joao Plata to spark the attack for a second straight week.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Vancouver Whitecaps, 10pm

Two teams desperate for a win face off in Canada as San Jose comes off a bye week and the Whitecaps come off earning their first road point.

Chris Wondolowski is key for the Earthquakes, who should find chances against a shaky Vancouver defense. The Whitecaps attack is capable of producing though and Davide Chiumiento could find success against the Earthquakes midfield.
