U.S. youth teams: Lletget, Gyau out of U-20 trip; U-17s set for Tuesday draw

U.S. Soccer Federation

The United States Under-20 national team is set to take on France in two friendlies this week, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday, but two of the more highly touted Americans expected to play in the games won't be available.

Sebastian Lletget and Joe Gyau, initally named to the roster for the trip, won't be with the club "due to slight injuries they have picked up with their clubs," according to U.S. Soccer. Acting manager Tab Ramos will not replace them on the roster and will have an 18-man team instead of 20.

The U.S. U-17s, meanwhile, await their fate for this summer's World Cup in Mexico. The draw for the event takes place this afternoon at about 2 p.m. in Mexico City, and the United States is among the top six seeds along with host Mexico, Germany, Argentina, Brazil and England.

What do you think about the U-20 development? Who do you look to step up in place of Lletget and Gyau? How do you think the U-17s will fare this summer?

  1. Bummed that they didn’t call in Fabian Hürzeler… or was there a reason why he wasn’t called in? gotta get him on board before Germany tries to turn him

  2. Just in the tournament. Seeding is not done the same as the big leagues. To begin with, the u17 team switches so many players, it’s pretty unfair to call any one team better than another when half the roster will change by next set of matches.

u17s are for enjoying the wide range of talents that are coming through.
