Fantasy MLS: Week 14

This past week in Major League Soccer was very low scoring, as many teams struggled to find the back of the net with their stars missing on international duty.

With a couple of more games on the schedule than usual and some lopsided matchups, this week could provide a return to high-scoring ways.

On of the headline matchups this week is Chicago at Sporting Kansas City. This is Sporting KC’s first home game, and it will finally show us how SKC players can perform when not on the road. If they end up performing well at home, SKC players will be stealth pickups the rest of the way because of the number of home games they have in the coming months.

Here are a few more items to consider before setting your fantasy lineup this week:

MULTIPLE GAMES

The Columbus Crew, Real Salt Lake, Sporting Kansas City, and Chicago Fire all play twice this week. Columbus has two home games this week. Any starter on the Crew's defense is a good play, but its offense has been incredibly inconsistent. Also, Real Salt Lake players are very strong plays, even though both of their games are away this week.

FANTASY MLS WEEK 11 BEST XI

GK – Will Hesmer, CLB – With two home games this week, Hesmer should be able to get at least one shutout.

D – Geoff Cameron, HOU – Midfielder listed as a defender in MFLS. He has not scored in a while and has a good opportunity to do so at home vs. Chivas.

D – Sean Franklin, LA – Even though LA’s offense didn’t create much this past week, the defense still looked solid. Look for them to get another shutout this week at home against Toronto.

D – Chad Marshall, CLB – Has not found the net this season, but is always dangerous on set pieces. With two home games this week, Marshall has a great chance to score along with getting at least one shutout.

M – David Beckham, LA – Wasn’t able to produce anything last week for Los Angeles, but will have another great opportunity to do so again this week vs. Toronto.

M – Brek Shea, DAL – Has been a very dangerous part of the Dallas attack ever since David Ferreira went down with a long-term injury. Look for him to bring Sporting Kansas City down back to life after its first home game mid-week.

M – Brad Evans, SEA – Vancouver has yet to win a game away this season. Seattle should be able to handle the Vancouver defense even though Jay Demerit is back in the lineup for the Whitecaps and put in a full 90 their last game. Look for Evans to contribute to the Sounders attack this week.

M – Brad Davis, HOU – Leads MLS with eight assists on the season. Even though Chivas has been in good form and Houston has struggled recently, Davis should be able distribute well at home against the Goats.

F – Luke Rodgers, NY – A home game vs. New England would normally be a great matchup for all Red Bulls players, but will many of their players missing due to international duty, it makes this game a little more risky. Rodgers has been essential to the Red Bulls attack. They will rely on him and Henry to pair up in order to score this week.

F – Chad Barrett, LA – Is definitely not the best finisher in the league, but he should get some great service this week. Look for him to add to his three goals and three assists on the year against his former team.

F – Teal Bunbury, SKC – Should be hungry for a goal after missing out on playing in the Gold Cup this week. He will be given two chances to get at least one this week.

INJURY WATCH

Many players are still away from their club teams for international duty. Be aware who is missing before picking up a player. Jan Gunnar Solli left the game early last week with a hamstring strain and is questionable to return this week. This leaves the Red Bulls' roster even more stretched while many of their players are at the Gold Cup. For other injury news, check out the most updated MLS injury report. The deadline for Week 14 is Wednesday at 8 p.m. Be sure to change your lineups by then.
