Many teams will be happy to have their players come back as the Gold Cup winds down. Only Mexico, Honduras, United States, and Panama remain in the tournament, and two teams will be going home after the semifinals are played on Wednesday.

While it'd be a risk to play any players from the potential semifinal losers, as they might not return to their clubs in time, players from teams that were eliminated over the weekend and before that should be fair game.

In MLS, there are many teams with multiple games and favorable matchups this week. With many points up for grabs, it is important to spend time on your team and be sure to make the right player decisions.

Here are a few more items to consider before setting your fantasy lineup this week:

MULTIPLE GAMES

Philadelphia, Kansas City, Chicago, Salt Lake, Seattle, and New York all have two games this week. Philadelphia, Chicago, and Seattle all have two home games this week. Home field advantage means a lot in MLS and that makes all of their players are great plays, although the Union has the best schedule of the three teams.

FANTASY MLS WEEK 16 BEST XI

GK – Faryd Mondragon, PHI – Mondragon has two home games this week against two teams that have not produced much offensively this season. The fact that Philadelphia has only allowed 12 goals this season, the second fewest in MLS, is a bonus.

D – James Riley, SEA – Also has two home games this week. Riley will be facing a New York Red Bulls team without Thierry Henry, who received a late red card in his game vs. Portland last week. Seattle’s other game is vs. New England, who has only scored four goals in their last nine games.

D – Nat Borchers, RSL – Real Salt Lake has allowed a league low eight goals on the season. With two games this week, they are likely to get a shutout in at least one of them.

D – Sheanon Williams, PHI – Is part of a solid Philadelphia back line that has two home games this week and with a salary of only 57 in MFLS, he is a very good pick-up.

M – Sebastien Le Toux, PHI – Le Toux has two games to spark the Philadelphia offense this week. He should be able to add to his four assists on the season.

M – Brek Shea, DAL – Is becoming a must start for all fantasy owners with six goals and one assist. He has a good chance of adding to those totals with a home game vs. expansion side Portland.

M – Brad Evans, SEA – Seattle players are must starts this week and Evans should find a place in your lineup. Is not likely to put up monster numbers but is a good play considering his schedule.

M – Marco Pappa, CHI – Pappa is back from internional duty and has a great chance to put up big fantasy stats with two home games this week. He is one of the more creative players in MLS and should create chances to score.

F – Fredy Montero, SEA – Montero’s time on the bench could have paid off as he looked very strong in his game last week vs. Toronto. Should be able take advantage of a New York team without its two starting centerbacks.

F – Dominic Oduro, CHI – Who would have thought that Oduro would have more goals than Montero at this point in the season? He has found his scoring touch with Chicago and should be able to capitalize off the chances he creates with his speed with two home games this week.

F – C.J. Sapong, SKC – Sapong was the first person to score at Livestrong Sporting Park and seemed to have made his way into the starting line-up. He has a chance to get on the scoresheet and keep his starting role twice this week and is very cost-effective.

INJURY WATCH

  1. Just a heads up…Domi, Dabo, Dube are out for the Revs, Duka is out for Columbus, and Debo is riding the pine for Chivas…

  2. Evans isn’t playing against New York tomorrow, though he should be in for New England. Plus he’s recovering from a knock. With only 1 game, he isn’t really a good play.

I’d look at DeRo there instead, since he’ll play both games and is being moved up top to forward in Seattle with Henry out.
